"In the name of books, we can get together comfortably. In the past 12 years, this sentence will appear at the end of each issue of the Xi'an Evening News "Chang'an Joy Reading" activity preview. Not surprisingly, at 2 p.m. on the last Saturday of each month, the public welfare reading activity "Chang'an Joy Reading" will start on time at Jiahui Hantang Book City in Xiaozhai, Xi'an.
Being in Xi'an, reading a book, perceiving the beauty of knowledge. Overlooking Chang'an, reading a city, knowing the vastness of ancient and modern. Over the past 12 years, nearly 100 teachers, including scholars, professors, writers, poets, critics, painters, calligraphers, and sculptors from Xi'an, have been guests of "Chang'an Joy Reading" without class fees, carriage fees, or fees.

Reading is such a good thing
"A small book, or sitting on the desk with a candle and annotating carefully, or leaning in front of the window, browsing casually, or on the pillow, in the car, on the toilet, at a glance. Reading is full of joy, you can live in a room, and know the world, you can travel through the past and the present, talk with the sages, exchange wisdom, and be refreshed. Reading is such a good thing, it is a taste for one person to enjoy it alone, and it is also a taste for everyone to comment on it. The former is easy to find, the latter is hard to find, and the 'Chang'an Yue Reading' reading salon is to build a platform for readers in the ancient city to share good books, exchange ideas, and open the sky. We uphold public welfare, grassroots and openness, refuse to follow the crowd, adhere to the taste of reading, refuse to rank seniority, everyone who comes is a guest, anyone can become the protagonist, refuse to limit the threshold, come and go casually. At 2 p.m. on the last Saturday of every month, the small village store of Jiahui Hantang Book City, in the name of books, let us get together comfortably. ”
This is published on May 22, 2011 in the Xi'an Evening News reading edition of "Chang'an Yue Reading to Readers", the full text of 264 words, informing readers that "Chang'an Yue Reading" will be launched soon.
The origin of the establishment of "Chang'an Yue Reading" is related to the famous Taiwanese cartoonist Zhu Deyong. In the autumn of 2010, cartoonist Zhu Deyong came to Xi'an Wanbang Book City to sign sales, and the event site needed to interview guests and hosts, and Wei Hongjian, the founder of Wanbang Book City, invited me to be the host. As a comic author who has created "Double Cannon", "Astringent Girl", "About Going to Work" and other popular comics across the strait, Zhu Deyong's humor and self-ridicule made the whole event very successful.
Every story is more or less foreshadowed, and there was a girl sitting in the audience that day, she was Yu Xin, the planner of Jiahui Hantang Book City. At that time, there were almost no reading activities for ordinary citizens and readers in Xi'an. Yu Xin wants to plan a reading activity to let more people feel that reading is such a good thing. Through Zhu Deyong's activities, she felt that I could take on this important responsibility, so she came to the newspaper with her colleagues to discuss. That afternoon, the sunlight spread over the battlements of the southern city wall, fell on the tall plane trees outside the window, and also fell on the two young people, quiet and sparse, which is the appearance that book lovers like.
The initiative to hold a public welfare reading activity was supported by newspapers and book cities. The planning plan written by Yu Xin soon reached the hands of the newspaper leaders. After the Spring Festival in 2011, Yu Xin ushered in an important moment in her life - she was pregnant. Because her family lives in Xianyang, she can no longer bear the long bumps of going to work every day, so she has no choice but to leave the book city and the preparation of the entire event. When leaving, she solemnly told other colleagues to complete the follow-up tasks.
Everything happens for a reason, and the name is right. Choosing a name for a reading event is also a lot of thought. Xi'an Daily is located in the Sun Temple Gate in the Vermilion Bird Gate. During the Tang Dynasty, it was the location of Honglu Temple. As the official office, Honglu Temple is in charge of foreign guests and ceremonies. According to the historian Wang Su, the current location of the newspaper office overlaps with the pond landscape in the Honglu Temple. History is both the past and the present, just like "Chang'an". In Chang'an, you can read a book and learn knowledge, or you can read a city and perceive history. Reading is such a beautiful thing, it is pleasant, and it will be enjoyable. It's reading, and it's also joyful reading.
"Chang'an Joy Reading", when the name of the reading activity was finalized, I found Li Pingxuan, a senior editor of the newspaper. After communicating ideas, Pingxuan quickly designed the icon of "Chang'an Joy Reading", a dark brown tile with a shadow illuminated by the light, and the official script writing on it, became the symbol of the reading activity. At this point, "Chang'an Joy Reading" kicked off.

There are living beings in the Qinling Mountains
"Who lives in seclusion in Zhongnan Mountain?" is the opening topic of "Chang'an Joy Reading". At that time, the American writer Bill Porter's "Hollow Valley Orchid" attracted the world's attention because of his visit to Zhongnan Mountain.
"In the middle of the sky, the south of the capital, hence the name Zhongnan, also known as the end of the south. When the sky is clear, standing on the high-rise buildings in the south of the city, the blue-gray outline of Zhongnan Mountain is clearly visible, stretching and protecting the buildings and streets in the city. For the people of Xi'an, Zhongnan Mountain is the mountain at the doorstep. When a mountain protects a city, there are countless topics to talk about.
A "Old County Town" is a biography of the lonely old city, and a "Aoki River" records the unspeakable vicissitudes of history. Living in Xi'an for a long time, Ye Guangqin, vice chairman of the Shaanxi Provincial Writers Association and a famous writer, set his sights on Qinling. In 2011, Mr. Ye was a guest at "Chang'an Yue Reading" and gave a lecture on "The Story of a Mountain and a Writer". After that, she walked to the depths of the Qinling Mountains, brushed shoulders with the black bear, and met the smiling face of the flower. In August 2014, Mr. Ye was a guest of "Chang'an Yue Reading" again and gave a lecture on "There Are Living Beings in the Qinling Mountains". Lead the listener to experience the spirituality of nature in the city.
3,000 miles of Great Qinling Mountains, 5,000 years of Chinese history. So, how big is the Qinling Mountains, and what are its natural boundaries? Where does the Qinling Mountains come from, and where does it origin? After 30 years of walking in the Qinling Mountains, the ecological and cultural scholar Dang Shuangren has completed a "Brief History of the Qinling Mountains" with more than 300,000 words. In July 2020, Mr. Dang was a guest at "Chang'an Yue Reading" and gave a lecture on "Qinling: Ze is the World". In his view, Qinling is a thick book, hiding countless geographical and biological codes, and recording countless ecological stories and humanistic stories.
At the foot of the Qinling Mountains, the wind blows the wheat waves. As a well-known wheat cultivation expert, Mr. Zhao Yu is a scientist who writes his papers on the ground, and has successively cultivated 9 wheat varieties, with a cumulative promotion area of more than 88 million mu and an increase in farmers' income of 5 billion yuan. In October 2014, Mr. Zhao, who was nearly 80 years old, and Li Kangmei, vice chairman of the Shaanxi Writers Association, were guests at "Chang'an Joy Reading" and gave a lecture on "Wheat Field: The Guardian of Life". In 2022, Mr. Zhao was listed on the 3rd China Good Person List. Sometimes, the mountain is a book, and sometimes, people are also a book.
The wheat field guards life and also gives birth to Chinese civilization. "The Agricultural Code in Chinese Civilization" is the topic of the lecture given by Fan Zhimin, a professor and doctoral supervisor of Xinong University, as a guest at "Chang'an Yue Reading" in August 2019, which is in line with the topic of his lecture on CCTV's "Let's Talk". The British philosopher Russell once said that Chinese civilization is the only civilization that has been continued without interruption. Mr. Fan uses detailed historical materials and meticulous logic to explain the close relationship between the development of Chinese civilization and agriculture, the structure, function and complementary advantages of the three major types of agriculture in the northern grassland, dry farming in the Central Plains and rice farming in the south of the Yangtze River, as well as the exchanges and integration between the northern grassland civilization and the farming civilization in the Yellow River basin and the Yangtze River basin.

The sunset is looking for spring and autumn
A huge underground corps, along with the golden iron horse, the mighty wind and clouds, and the beacon fire, were hidden deep next to the ancient capital Chang'an. Standing for thousands of years, thousands of soldiers shook off the soil on their bodies and stood as the "eighth wonder of the world". This is the Terracotta Warriors of Qin. Since 1974, the famous archaeologist and historian Yuan Zhongyi has presided over the exploration and test excavation of the Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang, and discovered the No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 terracotta warriors and horses pits and the copper chariot and horse pits, known as the "father of the Qin Warriors". In October 2012, Mr. Yuan was a guest at "Chang'an Yue Reading" to interpret the little-known stories of the Qin Terracotta Army. On the hand-painted color pictures he brought, everyone saw the colorful terracotta warriors, which were the instant state of the terracotta warriors and horses when they were just unearthed.
The majestic style of the Han and Tang Dynasties is the history and pride of Chang'an City. The Hanyang Mausoleum, located on the Xianyang Plain, is the mausoleum of Emperor Jing of the Han Dynasty. In May 1990, because the special road for the new airport had to pass through the Yangneung Mausoleum Park, it was necessary to carry out rescue excavation of the Hanyang Mausoleum. Under the leadership of Wang Xueli, a researcher and a famous archaeologist of Shaanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeology, archaeologists carried out archaeological excavations in the southern area of Yangling Cemetery and unearthed a large number of grain crops such as millet, millet and wheat, of which 11 were determined and confirmed to be peanuts by relevant departments, which provided a physical basis for the statement that "China is one of the origins of peanuts", which was 1600 years earlier than the traditional statement. In June 2016, Mr. Wang Xueli was a guest at "Chang'an Yue Reading" and gave a lecture on "Archaeological Captain's Words about Yangling".
After four years, Mr. Ma Yonghuan, a researcher at the Shaanxi Institute of Archaeology, who is also the main lecturer of CCTV's "Hundred Lectures" with Mr. Wang Xueli, was a guest at "Chang'an Yue Reading" in August 2020 as the captain of the Hanling Tomb archaeological team, and gave a lecture on "Hanyang Mausoleum: The Hidden Underground Dynasty". In accordance with the funeral etiquette of the Western Han Dynasty, he and his team restored the layout and construction of the capital Chang'an at that time by introducing the joint burial cemetery of Emperor Liu Qi of the Han Dynasty and his empress Wang, and interpreted the relaxed rule policies of the early Western Han Dynasty, such as ruling by inaction, lightly dispensing with small endowments, and resting with the people. The archaeological results of the Hanyang Mausoleum provide physical evidence for the study of the "rule of Wenjing".

Chang'an looked back at the piles of embroidery
This is Chang'an, the first capital city in history called "Beijing", and the first real city in history, and it is also the capital city with the most dynasties, the longest time and the greatest influence in Chinese history.
Mr. Wang Fengjun, vice president and research librarian of Xi'an Museum, was invited to be a guest at "Chang'an Joy Reading" in 2019 and gave a lecture on "Why is Chang'an here". From multiple dimensions such as historical heritage, cultural connotation, architectural form and ethical urban design, Mr. Wang sorted out the core reasons why Chang'an became the capital.
Small bridges and flowing water, mountain and stone corridors, Tang Dynasty gardens advocate nature and simplicity. Li Hao, a professor and doctoral supervisor of Northwest University, combined with the data of documentary archaeology and field investigation, and concluded that there are more than 1,000 private gardens with names left in Tang Garden, and more than 700 materials for research. Time has passed, and most of these Tang Gardens have turned into rubble and ruins, turning into dust. However, the artistic characteristics of the Tang Garden, such as "the world in the pot and the shrinking dragon into inches", have become an important reference element of garden architecture in later generations, and have influenced it to this day. In September 2012, Mr. Li Hao was invited to be a guest of "Chang'an Yue Reading" and gave a lecture on "Walking Water and Watching Clouds and Talking about Tang Garden".
Mountains and rivers are thousands of miles away, and the city is a nine-fold gate. Nanshan and autumn colors are both imposing. Tang Chang'an and Tang poetry are closely linked, and the word "Chang'an" appears more than 1,400 times in more than 50,000 existing Tang poems. Eight years later, in December 2020, Mr. Li Hao, who is already the president of the Chinese Tang Dynasty Literature Society, accepted the invitation to be a guest of "Chang'an Yue Reading" again. This time, he gave a lecture on "Chang'an and Tang Dynasty Poetry in the Tang Dynasty", interpreting the magnificent momentum of "Chang'an looks back at the piles of embroidery, and thousands of doors open on the top of the mountain" and the poetic scene of "Chang'an is a moon, and thousands of households pound clothes".
From Chang'an to Xi'an, the passage of time has drowned many traces of Tang Chang'an City. On the basis of academic research, based on the records of the official history, supported by the unearthed cultural relics and above-ground relics, combined with the comparison and judgment of the streets, alleys, mountains and rivers of Xi'an City, Li Yu, a historical and cultural scholar and editor-in-chief of Sanqin Publishing House, published "Looking for Chang'an City in the Tang Dynasty". In November 2023, when he was a guest at "Chang'an Yue Reading", Mr. Li Yu looked at the ancient and modern locations of Zhuque Street to the ins and outs of 108 squares in the Tang Dynasty, distinguishing the false and preserving the true, and proofreading all kinds of misreadings about Chang'an City in the Tang Dynasty.
It is the city wall that is majestic and vicissitudes, and it is the city wall that is full of fireworks. A Ming city wall has allowed Xi'an to have inside and outside the city, and also let history settle in the lives of the people. The Xi'an city wall with a total length of 13.7 kilometers is the largest and most well-preserved ancient city wall in China. In September 2021, Mr. Wang Su, a researcher at the Hanguang Gate Museum of the Tang Imperial City Wall, was a guest at "Chang'an Yue Reading" to talk about "The Origin and Development of Xi'an City Wall", showing the stories of the Sui and Tang Dynasty City Gate Gateway Ruins and the Imperial City Water Culvert Ruins in turn, which is the past and present life of the Xi'an City Wall.

Old Xi'an in the city of Sifang
As the city with the most dynasties and the longest time in Chinese history, Xi'an's "Capital Era" has attracted much attention. When Xi'an went through the "capital era", what did it look like? The lack of historical materials and the scarcity of literary and historical records made the urban memory of modern Xi'an vague. Chang'an's Han style and Tang rhyme are well known to the world, but it is equally important for Xi'an people to have a clear understanding of the historical context of the ancient city and touch the details of modern Xi'an. In April 2016, Shi Hongshuai, a professor and doctoral supervisor of Shaanxi Normal University, was a guest at "Chang'an Yue Reading" and gave a lecture on "Modern Xi'an from a Western Perspective", with the help of a large number of precious photos taken by modern Westerners, and outlined the landscape of modern Xi'an from an academic perspective.
The yellowed old photos record the vicissitudes of a city's growth footprints, reflect the profound and grand social background of a period, and witness one scene after another of historical changes. "Old Things in Xi'an" shows Xi'an in the Republic of China era in the form of pictures and texts. The author of the book is Zong Ming'an, a teacher who has been focusing on the study of the customs and people of old Xi'an for a long time. As a native of Xi'an, Mr. Zong spent his childhood, adolescence and youth in the morning mist and loneliness of Mashenmiao Lane, the core of the ancient capital. When he visited the old people with a dream and sought knowledge, he looked back at the thousands of old traces of his childhood alleys with a historical vision, and the city of Xi'an, which had tolerated and raised this small street and alley for free, he hoped to rely on his meager strength to bother to collect the many aphasia symbols left in the ancient city, and retain the indomitable life gene of a city. In June 2014, Mr. Zong Ming'an, a collector and expert in local history, was a guest at "Chang'an Yue Reading" and talked about "The Life of Old Xi'an People". In his view, clothing is the mirror of the development of the times, food is the carrier of history, and the house is not only a place to live, but also a symbol of personal and social development, just like the building streets.
Time passes, and images retain memories. Photographer Hu Wugong is a native of Xi'an, since he was a child, he is full of emotions for the city of Sifang, he uses the lens to record life, but also uses photos to retain memories. For more than 40 years, Mr. Hu has devoted himself to documenting the evolution of life in the city and countryside in an honest way, and has recorded a picture of life that can be called a historic farewell. These images provide the most reliable source materials for sociologists, historians, folklorists, and artists to understand the lives of ordinary people at the turn of the two centuries. In March 2014, Mr. Hu Wugong, then chairman of the Shaanxi Photographers Association and professor of Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology, was a guest at "Chang'an Yue Reading" and gave a lecture on "Sifang City and Documentary Photography".
From the early 80s to the late 90s of the 20th century, Pan Ke, a photographer living in Xi'an, recorded the city's appearance and living conditions with his camera, which solidified the photographer's perspective and cognition, and also carried rich social information. In September 2018, Mr. Pan Ke, a photographer and photography theorist, was a guest at "Chang'an Yue Reading" and gave a lecture on "Depth of Field: Images of Xi'an in the Eighties", leading readers to travel through time and look back at the former city of Xi'an.

I recommend Chang'an with poetry
Sauvignon Blanc, in Chang'an. Looking back at the homeland, every Chang'an person has such feelings, and the poet Xue Baoqin, who has lived in Chang'an for a long time, is no exception. In the spring of 2011, Chang'an flowers swayed, the world garden will be in full bloom, "Send you a Chang'an", the rhythm of the ancient city. In autumn, the sky is high and the clouds are light, and the World Horticultural Exhibition is closing, "Send You a Chang'an", which is still moving. In October 2011, Xue Baoqin, the lyricist of "Send You a Chang'an" and a famous poet, was a guest of "Chang'an Yue Reading" to interpret why Xi'an City is "a city culture, half a city of immortals"?
Xi'an, known as Chang'an in ancient times, is also known as Xijing. "The Story of Xijing" is the topic of the famous playwright and writer Chen Yan who was a guest at "Chang'an Yue Reading" in February 2016. In January 2016, the Chinese Novel Society announced the 2015 Chinese Novel List, and its "Loading the Stage" was selected as one of the five novels of the year and ranked first. The so-called stage installation is to stage the stage before the theatrical performance, such as stage scenery and lighting installation. The novel "Stage" focuses on a group of setters who are busy behind the stage and curtains. Teacher Chen Yan said: "Fiction is the art of writing survival, writing about the humility and greatness, passion and hardship of survival. And he focuses on the little people to "try to find a little warmth and brightness for those who are helpless".
Kunlun, Yellow River, Huashan, Qinchuan, Dongfang, Xiguang, these resounding names are the names of factories on Xi'an Xingfu Road. Teacher A Ying, a writer who grew up in the military industrial compound on Xingfu Road since childhood, was reading countless materials and archives, and wrote the novel "Chang'an" with his manuscript, and frankly said that this was a work written for his parents and leading workers. In 2021, "Chang'an" was included in the 6th Annual Gold List of Novels. In April 2022, the famous playwright and writer A Ying was a guest at "Chang'an Yue Reading" and gave a lecture on "Happy Forest Belt and Chang'an Story", leading the listeners to look back on the memories and stories of Xi'an in the eventful years.

Reading is affectionate nostalgia
"Chen Zhongzhong talks about "White Deer Plain", this is a simple and simple topic in the preview of many activities of "Chang'an Joy Reading". On April 28, 2012, when Mr. Chen Zhongzhong walked to the book city with a satchel on his back, he was greeted everywhere he went. What was not known to outsiders at that time was that Mr. Chen Zhongzhong's body occasionally showed symptoms of discomfort before, but he did not check the problem. Later, when I saw that Mr. Chen was in good health, he invited him to give a lecture, but Mr. Chen was afraid that he would not be able to speak well, so I said, "You should take this as a public interview, and I will ask you to answer." Teacher Chen said, "Okay." The only request of the elderly is to take a lunch break at noon, can the time be adjusted to 3 o'clock in the afternoon, which is also the only time that "Chang'an Yue Reading" has postponed the time. Because the scheduled venue has long been crowded by readers can not sit down, so it was temporarily adjusted to a larger classroom, even so, there are still readers who have no place to sit, just stand in the back, and some readers simply sit cross-legged on the podium, after the lecture, many readers said that their legs are numb, and it took a long time to get better.
On that day, Mr. Chen spoke devotedly and emotionally. I still remember that he said that after the field was divided into households, he reverted himself to a farmer again, working in the fields, harvesting, and raising the field. After the harvest, he lay down comfortably on the wheat stack, and his body and mind were happy.
Four years later, on April 29, 2016, the dark clouds on the Bailu Plain were low, and Mr. Chen Zhongzhong passed away. In April 2017, the TV series "White Deer Plain" premiered. What few people know is that as early as 2001, film and television producer Zhao An signed the TV adaptation rights of "White Deer Plain", followed by 16 years of hard filming and production. Time flies, April 29, 2023, is the seventh anniversary of the death of teacher Chen Zhongzhong, and it happens to be the last Saturday of the month, Mr. Zhao An, chairman of the Shaanxi Provincial Film Association and producer of the TV series "White Deer Plain", and Mr. Li Guoping, vice chairman of the Provincial Writers Association and critic, were guests at "Chang'an Yue Reading" and started the topic with "Looking Back at Bailu Reading Faithfully". When talking about the sudden death of Teacher Chen Zhongzhong, Zhao An said: "Regarding the adaptation of "White Deer Plain", Mr. Chen pinned his hopes on the TV series, and it is our eternal regret that Mr. Chen failed to let Mr. Chen see the TV series "White Deer Plain"!"
On December 30, 2017, Mr. Hong Ke, vice chairman of the Shaanxi Provincial Writers Association and a famous writer, was a guest at "Chang'an Yue Reading", with the title of "From the Land to the Earth", talking about his journey from Shaanxi to Xinjiang and back to Shaanxi, spanning the two civilizations of farming and nomadism. After the New Year, less than two months later, on February 24, 2018, Hong Ke died of a sudden heart attack. This day is the eighth day of the first lunar month. I haven't verified, except for the lectures at school, is "Chang'an Yue Reading" the last lecture he gave to the public before his death?
93-year-old teacher Pan Dingkun is the oldest guest of "Chang'an Yue Reading". After graduating from Fudan University, he taught mathematics at Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology. Because of his family studies and love, he has studied the level of ancient poetry. In May 2018, he and the poet Lv Gang, who is also a professor at Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology, used poetry as a medium to talk about "Ancient and Modern Poetry". Now, Pan Lao has passed away, leaving behind the legend of the mathematics professor telling ancient poems.

The sound of the flow of knowledge
"Chang'an Joy Reading" is a reading platform open to the public. The participation of the audience will vary depending on the guests of each session. There are elderly people who let their families accompany them and come to listen to Teacher Chen Yan's drama with a cane, and there are also eight or nine-year-old primary school students who come to interact with photographer Li Pan and perceive the power of photography. Since all attendees participated on their own, there was no need to maintain order at the event, and it was possible to maintain peace and order.
Mr. Sun Haohui, the author of the long historical novel "The Great Qin Empire", was invited to be a guest at "Chang'an Yue Reading", and the event preview was published. Unexpectedly, two or three days before the lecture, his ribs were broken due to coughing, but fortunately, his movement and speech were acceptable, so he agreed to come to the scene to speak for 10 or 20 minutes and then evacuate. On the day of the event, after Mr. Sun arrived at the scene, the seriousness and enthusiasm of the audience infected him, and he spoke eloquently for more than 1 hour, and after the event, he also signed the sale.
In June 2017, Wang Jianling, the inheritor of the national intangible cultural heritage "Northern Shaanxi Folk Proverbs", spoke and sang while visiting "Chang'an Yue Reading" and started to talk about "The Past and Present Life of Xintianyou". His love for his hometown in northern Shaanxi infected every audience present. After the event, Mr. Wang said, "You are the best audience I have ever met!"
Coincidentally. In March 2018, Mr. Dang Sheng, a designer and art historian, was a guest at "Chang'an Yue Reading", and after giving a lecture on "Heart Prints: A Brief Description of Yuan Dynasty Literati Paintings", he was also moved by the seriousness of the audience. He said that he had also spoken in a better auditorium and a larger venue, but the lights on the stage were a dozen and the audience was black, but the effect was far less good than here.
Knowledge, recorded in books, is silent. Like a great river that flows quietly, the river ripples slightly when a reader arrives on a trek, and waves when the successors arrive, which is the charm of knowledge. At the scene of "Chang'an Joy Reading", only when the listener is serious and the speaker will be engaged, will the two sides resonate, arrive at the best place together, and taste the joy brought by knowledge. That's exactly what it is: in the name of books, we get together.
