At the same time, consumer complaints about gold jewelry also occur from time to time, mainly focusing on process defects, concealment of gram weight, false publicity, adulteration, etc.

In order to further standardize the operation order of the gold jewelry market, recently, the Changzhou Municipal Market Supervision Bureau of Jiangsu Province conducted an administrative interview with the Changzhou Gold Jewelry Association and China Gold, China Jewelry, Lao Fengxiang and other well-known gold jewelry brand management enterprises. Jiang Ke, director of the Market and Consumer Environment Supervision Division of the Changzhou Municipal Market Supervision Bureau, told reporters that the recent complaints about the gold and jewelry industry in Changzhou are mainly concentrated in three aspects.

  • Jewelry has quality problems such as fracture, deformation, discoloration, and inlay falling off;
  • The "fixed price" gold pricing model is not transparent, the operator does not inform the gram weight of the gold jewelry when selling, and the "fixed price" goods and the goods by gram weight cannot be exchanged;
  • The "trade-in" of gold does not clearly indicate to consumers the name, weight, purity, unit price and other information of the "craft gold" exchanged.

In response to consumer complaints, the regulatory authorities organized on-site inspections. During the inspection, in addition to the above-mentioned centralized complaints, the staff also found that some well-known gold jewelry brands had problems such as false publicity, non-standard use of measuring instruments, and failure to clearly mark prices in the business process.

  • In terms of advertising, such as the gold price, merchants will advertise 480 yuan/gram, but in fact, there will be a small number of words to mark the price of 480 yuan per gram for every 5 grams, not 480 yuan per gram in the real sense, as well as processing fees or other fees;
  • In terms of measurement, the measuring instruments used by some operators have not been legally calibrated, and there are deviations.

In view of the common problems in the industry, the person in charge of the relevant department of the Changzhou Municipal Market Supervision Bureau interviewed and warned a number of gold and jewelry business enterprises: let the operators make a rectification commitment for their own problems, and let all the participating enterprises sign a letter of commitment to honest management.

Ke Yiwen told reporters that previously, Mr. Cai, a consumer in Guangzhou, bought a bracelet worth 10,540 yuan in a gold store. Later, a friend reminded that if the price of the bracelet was much higher than the international gold price according to the unit price, the consumer felt deceived and returned to the gold store to ask for a re-verification of the price of the bracelet according to the actual gram weight.

During the mediation process, the merchant pointed out that the bracelet purchased by the consumer is the "price marked" gold jewelry in the store, that is, the commonly known "ornamented gold", although the number of grams is small, but the cost of craftsmanship is high, according to the industry rules, it is generally not sold according to the number of grams, but sold at the form of "fixed price", and the merchant has made a clear reminder at the sales counter and fulfilled the obligation of clearly marking the price. After repeated mediation, the consumer agreed with the merchant's explanation and no longer insisted on the refund request.
