Lan Foan: Developed countries should implement their climate finance commitments as soon as possible

According to the Ministry of Finance, on April 17-18, Brazil, the presidency of the Group of Twenty (G20), chaired the second meeting of G20 finance ministers and central bank governors in Washington, D.C., USA. The meeting focused on reshaping the financial framework for achieving just transitions and climate goals, and adapting the international financial architecture to the 21st century. Minister of Finance Lan Foan attended the meeting and delivered a speech, accompanied by Vice Minister Liao Min. Representatives of G20 member countries, guest countries and relevant international organizations attended the meeting.

Lan Foan said that the Chinese government is committed to improving the fiscal, tax, financial, investment, and pricing policies and standard systems that support green development, and providing investment and financing support for accelerating the green and low-carbon transformation of the development mode and achieving positive results. All parties should adhere to the principle of common but differentiated responsibilities in mobilizing transition and climate finance, and developed countries should implement their climate finance commitments as soon as possible and provide technical and capacity-building support to developing countries. China supports building a "better, bigger and more effective" multilateral development bank. The G20 should promote the strengthening of the synergy of multilateral development banks, enhance the financial strength of multilateral development banks through capital increases, improve the voice and representation of developing countries in multilateral development bank decision-making, and reflect the changes in the global economic pattern and the contribution of emerging market countries.

During the meeting, Lan Foan held bilateral meetings or exchanges with EU Economic Commissioner Paul Gentiloni, German Finance Minister Christian Lindner, French Minister of Economy and Finance Bruno Le Maire, Maldives Finance Minister Shafiq, Pakistani Finance Minister Aurangzeb, and Indonesian Finance Minister Indra Wah, mainly exchanging views on the macroeconomic situation, key issues of the G20 financial channel and bilateral cooperation. Vice Minister Liao Min accompanied the attendees.
