This tragic incident that occurred in the base area of the anti-Japanese revolution immediately attracted Chairman Mao's attention. However, as he made more and more contributions to the front, Xing Renfu gradually became infected with the bad habit of pride and complacency. During the period of presiding over the Jilu Border Region, he married a little wife without telling the party organization, and even secretly mobilized migrant workers to build a villa for himself on a small island to create his own "comfortable nest".

After defecting, Xing Renfu first defected to the Japanese army and betrayed the intelligence of the revolutionary base area. After Japan's defeat in World War II, Xing Renfu became the deputy commander of security under the Kuomintang, and completely went to the opposite side of the party and the people.
On the eve of the Pingjin Battle in 1948, Xing Renfu realized that the general trend of the Kuomintang was gone, so he could only go into the wilderness on the pretext of recuperating from illness, and quietly hid incognito in Tianjin. But Xing Renfu's behavior of covering his ears and stealing the bell did not allow him to escape the people's judgment.
