Under the "involution", Mingyang Goldwind adheres to innovation and leadership, and Mingyang Goldwind leads the "sea and land" wind power market

On April 19, the China Wind Energy Professional Committee announced the installed capacity statistics of domestic wind turbine manufacturers in 2023. Statistics show that in 2023, the country (excluding Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) will add 14,187 new installed capacity, with a capacity of 79.37 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 59.3%, of which 72.19 million kilowatts will be added to onshore wind power, accounting for 91% of all new installed capacity, and 7.183 million kilowatts of offshore wind power, accounting for 9% of all new installed capacity. Among them, Goldwind led the first place in onshore wind power with 15.12 million kilowatts of new installed capacity, and Mingyang Intelligent further consolidated its leading position in offshore wind power with 2.941 million kilowatts of new installed capacity. The advanced technology of China's new energy enterprises represented by Goldwind and Mingyang on land and offshore has become an important driving force for the development of new quality productivity. In the context of involution and low prices in the wind power industry, the two wind power giants still adhere to innovation and technology leadership, which will play a positive role in the healthy development of China's wind power industry and even the world's wind power industry.

At present, large megawatt technology has become an important password to promote the high-quality development of the industry. In order to achieve greater utilization of wind energy, it is inevitable to increase the size of wind turbines. The use of large megawatt units can not only effectively save the sea area, but also reduce the cost of equipment, transportation and construction, and effectively improve the overall economy of project development.

In terms of onshore wind power, Goldwind, a leading wind power company, has built a single unit with a capacity covering 8. X-11. X MW wind turbines, covering the medium and high wind speed market, to meet the needs of different application scenarios. In its 2023 Sustainability Report released in March, Goldwind said that as of 2023, Goldwind has accumulated more than 114GW of installed capacity in the world, accounting for 13.9% of the global market share, ranking first in the world for a second time. In 2023, Goldwind added 15.67GW of new installed wind power capacity in China, ranking first in the country for 13 consecutive years.

In February this year, Goldwind's new-generation V17 onshore flagship platform "added another member", with a single capacity covering 8. X-11. X MW wind turbines landed in Gansu. This is a large-megawatt onshore product created by Goldwind in response to market demand, covering the medium and high wind speed market and meeting the needs of different application scenarios. Since its launch, the product has been widely favored by the market and has been approved for market orders in Xinjiang, Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Jilin and other regions.

In addition to onshore units, Goldwind is also leading the way in onshore wind turbine mixing towers. According to public information, since the country's first wind power steel-concrete tower prototype was put into operation in 2013, Goldwind has achieved a breakthrough in the mixing tower from 90 meters to 185 meters. According to reports, Goldwind has obtained a total of more than 9GW of orders for hybrid tower products, and the hybrid tower products have been put into operation on more than 150 projects in 21 provinces across the country.

Taking advantage of the tuyere, wind turbine manufacturers are "staking land" in Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, Gansu and other places. Under the policy background of promoting the construction of large-scale wind and photovoltaic bases in Shagehuang, Northwest China has become a must for new energy development enterprises, and Inner Mongolia has become the first province in the country with an installed capacity of more than 100 million kilowatts.

At the same time, the development of onshore wind power has also ushered in favorable policies. Recently, the National Development and Reform Commission and other six departments jointly issued the "Notice on Several Policies and Measures to Support the Green, Low-Carbon and High-Quality Development of Inner Mongolia", pointing out that it is necessary to accelerate the development of new energy industries, support Inner Mongolia to explore the innovative development model of new energy industries, and develop industrial clusters such as wind turbines, photovoltaics, solar thermal, hydrogen energy, and energy storage with high quality under the premise of ensuring consumption.

In order to adapt to the local wind resource conditions and cope with the difficulties such as complex environment, severe cold and heat, and frequent sandstorms in the Shagehuang area, in recent years, Mingyang Intelligent has devoted itself to the development of Shagehuang models, and has rolled off the production line of Shagehuang models such as MySE11-233, MySE8.5-216, and MySE7.15-216. In addition to the customized design of wind turbines for the Shagehuang area, Mingyang Intelligent has also recently established a new energy onshore equipment headquarters in Inner Mongolia.

In terms of offshore wind power, Chinese enterprises have made a huge leap from "following" and "running" to "leading". In December 2023, Mingyang Intelligent launched the MySE18.X-20MW offshore wind turbine with the world's largest single capacity and largest wind turbine diameter, which was selected as one of the "Top Ten Scientific and Technological Innovation Achievements in the Energy Industry in 2023" announced by the National Energy Administration. In the 2023 "World's Best Wind Turbine" award ranking released by Windpower Monthly, an authoritative global wind power media, Mingyang Intelligent Products won the Gold Award for the World's Best Offshore Wind Turbine, the Gold and Silver Awards for the World's Best Blade, the Gold Award for the World's Best Transmission System, and the Silver Award for the World's Best Onshore Wind Turbine, and won the wind power enterprise with the most innovative products in the world. In February this year, Mingyang once again rolled off the production line of the world's longest offshore ultra-long blade, continuing to lead the development trend of offshore wind power ultra-long blades.

The person in charge of Mingyang Intelligent said that in order to realize the large-scale application of high-power offshore wind turbines, Mingyang has created a matching production and supply chain system for core components such as gearboxes, generators, main bearings, converters, castings, etc., and cultivated a full life cycle service chain system from development, procurement, transportation, installation, operation, operation and maintenance.

According to the "2023 Global Wind Turbine Market Share" report released by Bloomberg New Energy Finance not long ago, in the global offshore wind power market, Mingyang Intelligent has become the world's No. 1 offshore wind power installed capacity enterprise in 2023. According to the report, the global offshore wind power installed capacity will reach 11GW in 2023, up 25% year-on-year, and the growth in global wind power installed capacity is mainly due to strong installations in the Chinese market.

The person in charge of Mingyang Intelligence said many times in interviews that Mingyang will adhere to independent innovation and promote the development of offshore wind power to the deep sea with leading large megawatt technology and anti-typhoon technology. As of 2023, more than 2,000 Mingyang wind turbines have been operating in typhoon areas such as the southeast coast of the mainland, and these wind turbines have experienced dozens of typhoons of different levels, with the largest typhoon level reaching 18.

It is understood that based on the massive operation data of wind turbines in typhoon areas and years of continuous in-depth research and development, Mingyang comprehensively analyzes the wind speed and direction, turbulence intensity, wind shear, gust coefficient, and unit operation status of typhoons, and integrates the research results into the anti-typhoon performance design of MySE series fans. Through years of accumulation, Mingyang has become the company with the most actual operation data of typhoon wind farms in the industry.

Mingyang's leading position in offshore wind power is also reflected in product innovation. Taking the research and development of floating offshore wind turbines as an example, in addition to the world's first typhoon-resistant floating wind turbine "Three Gorges Leading" and the mainland's first deep-sea floating wind power platform "CNOOC Guanlan", it is reported that the world's first dual-wind turbine floating wind turbine will start towing installation this year.

According to the person in charge of Mingyang Intelligence, "OceanX" innovatively adopts the design forms of double rotor, downwind direction, single-point mooring, airfoil tower, etc., which effectively reduces the ultimate load of the platform and systematically improves the economy and stability of the floating platform while increasing the power generation of the unit. At the same time, the application of innovative materials in key parts of the platform has effectively reduced manufacturing costs.

According to the latest data from the National Energy Administration, as of the end of December 2023, the country's installed wind power capacity was about 440 million kilowatts, a year-on-year increase of 20.7%, and China's installed wind power capacity ranked first in the world for 14 consecutive years. The high-quality development of the wind power industry has driven the development of upstream industries such as towers, generators, bearings, blades, and gearboxes.

The China Electricity Council predicts that the cumulative grid-connected wind power in mainland China will reach 530 million kilowatts in 2024, and the new installed capacity of wind power is expected to be about 89GW, with broad market prospects. In addition to the northwest region, coastal provinces such as Zhejiang, Shandong, and Shanghai have successively issued notices on wind power project bidding, which has also accelerated the development of offshore wind power in 2024.

Huafu Securities pointed out that the inflection point of the offshore wind power boom in 2024 has arrived, and the installed demand is expected to accelerate the release. The impact of restrictive factors has gradually been lifted, and offshore wind projects have accelerated, and it is expected to add 10-15GW of new installed capacity in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 67%-114%. Based on the "14th Five-Year Plan" goals of various provinces and cities, Haifeng is expected to usher in a wave of small peaks in installed capacity in the next two years.

The development of offshore wind power has also led to the three-dimensional integrated development of offshore energy. At present, in addition to the deep integration of "offshore wind power + marine ranching" through integrated intelligent equipment, the comprehensive utilization mode of marine resources such as "offshore wind power + seawater desalination" and "offshore wind power + offshore hydrogen production" is also being explored.

Zhang Chuanwei, chairman and CEO of Mingyang Intelligence, publicly stated that Mingyang has completed the layout of the whole industrial chain and the whole industrial ecology in Guangdong, such as wind and solar hydrogen storage, electric hydrogen ammonia, and flexible direct uplifting. At the same time, through the development of deep-sea offshore wind power, the construction and development of million-ton green "electric hydrogen ammonia" projects will be driven, and the on-site hydrogen production of deep-sea green electricity will be promoted.

In recent years, Guangdong, which sits on a sea area of 419,000 square kilometers, has also further raised its maritime development to a strategic level. With the gradual increase in the scale of front-end installation, it is expected to drive the downstream industrial chain to form a trillion-level offshore equipment industry cluster. With further breakthroughs in technological innovation and scenario applications for the deep sea, wind power companies are expected to activate new profit growth points.

High-quality development with "new quality productivity" as the core and green development as the background also puts forward higher requirements for scientific and technological innovation to promote industrial upgrading. Accelerate the construction of offshore wind power floating wind turbine foundation platforms, flexible DC centralized transmission, offshore hydrogen production, etc., and build megawatt-level wave energy demonstration projects, which will optimize a series of related science and technology industry patterns and improve the quality and efficiency of China's and even the world's economic development.

At present, China's wind turbine manufacturers, represented by Goldwind and Mingyang, are forging new quality productivity in the field of green energy with continuous technological innovation and market expansion, and promoting the development of the mainland wind power industry in a higher quality and more sustainable direction.
