Peony, known as the reputation of the national color and natural fragrance, now the peony in various areas of Xuhui has bloomed on the branches, one by one the purple and red, jade smile pearl fragrance, magnificent, bursts of floral fragrance that comes to the nose is fascinating.
"Who doesn't love peony flowers, occupy the good things in the city. It is suspected to be the work of Luochuan God, and it is beautiful to break the morning glow. Peony originated in China, the first of the traditional famous flowers, alias wood peony, the flowers are bright in color, the flowers are large and fragrant, so it is called "the national color and natural fragrance", known as the "king of flowers".
At present, there are 20 ancient peonies in the city, 14 in Xuhui District, including 8 in Caoxi Park, 4 in Longhua Temple, and 1 each in Shanghai Botanical Garden and Kangjian Garden.
Caoxi Park was originally the ancestral home of Cao Zhonghuang, a cotton cloth merchant in Shanghai before the liberation, also known as Caojia Garden, which was founded in 1931 and completed in 1935, Cao Zhonghuang planted peonies in the garden from Ningguo in Anhui Province and gifts from relatives and friends, these peonies are from the Qing Dynasty, and have been more than 180 years so far.
In 1958, the park was rebuilt by the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Gardens and Gardens and opened to the public, and then further expanded the area of the ancient peony flower bed, and constantly reinvigorated the growth of the ancient peony, it is the largest ancient peony community in Shanghai, and Caoxi Park has therefore become a park with peony as the theme, there are 8 ancient peonies in the flower bed to form the peony group, including Feng Danbai, Zi Erqiao and Xi Shi, Yulou Chun four varieties. At present, Caoxi Park is closed for renovation and upgrading, and it will meet with citizens and friends with a new look in the near future.
Longhua Temple, has a history of more than 1,700 years, since the Tang Dynasty, Buddhist temple culture and peony culture fusion, now many temple gardens planted peony flowers, according to legend is the Qing Dynasty Xianfeng years, when the abbot of Longhua Temple Guanzhu and Hangzhou Donglin Temple abbot is a brother, they together with a boat to transport peony from Hangzhou to Longhua Baibu Bridge, and planted in the courtyard in front of the temple dining place. The four existing ancient peony varieties are Zierqiao, Wulong Zhusheng, Xiangyu and Zhao Fen, all of which have been included in the protection of ancient trees for more than 180 years.
In addition to Caoxi Park and Longhua Temple, Kangjian Garden and Shanghai Botanical Garden also have a peony garden, among which the ancient peonies are more than 180 years old, and some of the individual plants have a longer history. At present, the peony is in full bloom, the ancient peony and the newly planted peony flowers are clustered, contrasting with each other, there are intoxicating delicate red, there are cold plain white, there are bright pink, under the bright sun, charming and moving.
