Who prefers to use mobile payments?

Among the people who use mobile payment, people aged 18-40 accounted for 65.3%, and people over 40 years old accounted for 34.2% of the total, an increase of 5.7 percentage points over the previous year.

The survey also shows that mobile payment users in East China, North China, South China and Central China account for 36.5%, 16.4%, 16.1% and 12.7% respectively. What are your preferences and characteristics when using mobile payments?

According to the survey, mobile payment has become an indispensable payment method in people's daily lives. In 2023, the frequency of users using mobile payment will further increase, with 85.0% of users using it every day, an increase of one percentage point compared with 2022, maintaining a high level and growth momentum.

High frequency and small amount are the distinctive characteristics of mobile payment. In 2023, more than 60% of users will make a single payment of less than 100 yuan, a decrease of 3.7 percentage points from 2022, 26.8% of users will make a single payment between 100-500 yuan, 6.6% of users will make a single payment of 500-1000 yuan, and only 6.3% of users will make a single payment of more than 1,000 yuan.

Convenience is one of the main reasons why users choose to use mobile payments. Scanning QR codes or presenting QR codes on mobile phones is the most commonly used payment method by users, with a penetration rate of 92.7%; more and more users choose to pay on the client side of Alipay, WeChat and other payment institutions, with a penetration rate of 63.7%, an increase of 28.1 percentage points over 2022; 36.6% of users will consider making payment with bank cards or flash payment functions of Apple Pay, Huawei Pay, Mi Pay and other products.

Which scenarios have higher mobile payment penetration?

According to the survey, mobile payment has widely covered many scenarios such as commercial consumption, public livelihood, investment and financial management. The penetration rates of rigid consumption scenarios such as catering and food, transportation and people's livelihood services were as high as 96.1%, 76.9% and 70.3% respectively.

The data also shows that when paying social security and taxes, eighty percent of users are more inclined to use third-party payment institution platforms such as Alipay and WeChat Pay. When applying for financial subsidies such as employment subsidies and vocational skills subsidies, bank accounts have a higher level of trust. Eighty percent of users prefer to be issued to bank accounts, and less than two percent of users choose to be issued to third-party payment accounts.

The passwordless payment function is more widely used in small-value scenarios, with 51.1% of users using passwordless payment for less than 100 yuan, and 27.3% of users between 100 and 300 yuan.

According to the data, taking transportation is the most frequent scenario for passwordless payment, with a penetration rate of 76.5%.

According to the data, 75.6% of users have helped their elderly parents or other relatives and friends to use mobile payment, and 4.0% of them have encountered problems such as cumbersome operation processes, complex verification models, and difficulties in understanding by the elderly. 5.6% of users are using the elderly-friendly mode of mobile payment apps, and the proportion of users has increased steadily, and the transformation for the elderly has achieved initial results.

Convenience and security are the main concerns of mobile payment users in the field of ageing. In 2023, users' demands for the optimization of functional sections have decreased, and suggestions for optimizing the functions of the old version of mobile payment apps, such as enlarging fonts, reducing ad recommendations, optimizing functional modules, reconfirming large-value family transactions, limiting payment limits, and increasing voice broadcasts, have all been widely supported by users, with support rates of 77.9%, 73.1%, 59.8%, 51.4%, 43.8% and 42.5% respectively.

What are mobile payment users most worried about?

While improving user convenience, mobile payment also brings certain uncertainties and risks. According to the data, 65.9% of users are worried about the security risks when using mobile payment, 40.0% are worried about the widespread popularity of mobile payment, and some users (29.3%) are worried about entering the wrong amount when paying.
