Tang Fan League Monument

After passing the main gate of Jokhang Temple, walking clockwise on Barkhor Street, what catches your eye is the "Tang Fan League Monument", which has a history of more than 1,000 years.

According to historical records, in 821 AD, the Tang Dynasty and Tibet reached an alliance. In 823 A.D., Tang Fan carved the alliance text in Chinese and Tibetan characters and set up a stone monument: "Emperor Wenwu Xiaode of the Tang Dynasty and the two masters of the uncle and nephew of the holy god of Dafan Zanpu discussed the society as one, and established the Maha Covenant, which will never be replaced, and the gods and men have proved it, and it has been praised from generation to generation. ”

The exhibition hall of the former site of the Yamen of the Qing government minister in Tibet

In the sixth year of the Yongzheng Dynasty (1728 AD), the central government of the Qing Dynasty set up the first yamen of the ministers stationed in Tibet for the office and residence of the ministers stationed in Tibet. Since the minister stationed in Tibet could enjoy the bustling scene of Barkhor Street up close from the window of the south building of the compound, it was called "Chongsaikang", which means "house with a view of the market".

The exhibition in the exhibition hall is divided into five parts: the special exhibition of the deeds of the Qing government's minister in Tibet, and the restoration exhibition of the former site of the Qing government's minister in Tibet.

In addition to the above places, Yue Meier especially recommends that you take a look at the ancient courtyards in the streets and alleys of Barkhor Street, visit the shops along the street, and feel the Tibetan architectural style and Tibetan customs.

There are 56 ancient building compounds in the ancient city represented by Barkhor Street, some of which are inhabited by local people, and some are being "revitalized".
