Polish hussars, also known as hussars and Polish hussars, were one of the main types of combat cavalry in Poland and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth from the 16th to the 18th centuries. Assault cavalry, which carried out surprise attacks and quickly retreated, and light cavalry, which were used to charge and disrupt enemy formations, were all equipped with the iconic Polish wings.

Hussars are known for their huge "wings", which are wooden frames on which the feathers of eagles, ostriches, swans or geese are carried. From then until the Battle of Vienna in 1683, the hussars fought many battles against a wide variety of enemies, most of them victorious. For example, in the Battle of Kruzing during the Polish–Muscovite War, the Russian army outnumbered the federal army five times as many as the federal army, but suffered a crushing defeat. The role of the hussar gradually evolved into a reconnaissance and advanced reconnaissance ability. Due to the abandonment of their armor and heavy weapons, their uniforms became more elaborate. In the 18th century, as infantry weapons became more effective, heavy cavalry, with their tactics of rushing into and breaking through infantry units, became increasingly obsolete, and hussars were transformed from elite combat units into parade units.
