Recently, 7 more SiC electric drive applications in China have announced mass production/off the assembly line:

  • United Electronics: 400V SiC bridge ushered in mass production, achieving a maximum efficiency of 95.6%;
  • FAW Hongqi: SiC electric drive mass production off the assembly line, matching a variety of kingpin models;
  • Jingjin Electric: 800V SiC controller passed the mass production audit of European customers;
  • HASCO Magna: The local low-cost 800V-SiC platform inverter has completed the A-sample off-line;
  • Beiqi Jihu: The new motor adopts SiC technology, and the energy conversion efficiency reaches 99.5%;
  • Inovance United Power: The new electric drive A prototype has rolled off the assembly line, which can realize Si/SiC design;

United Electronics:

Mass production of 400V SiC bridges

In March, United Electronics announced that the 400V SiC bridge (motor controller, motor and reducer integrated unit) developed by them ushered in the first batch production at the Taicang plant. It is reported that this mass production marks the full coverage of Si and SiC technologies on the 400V voltage platform, with 400V Si, 400V SiC and 800V SiC bridge solutions.

According to reports, the 400VSiC bridge internal inverter adopts the power module independently packaged by United Electronics, equipped with the second-generation trench SiC chip, the maximum efficiency of the inverter monomer is 99.5%, and the peak current output can achieve 620Arms/20s under normal working conditions, and the short-term BOOST (overclocking use) can reach 650Arms/5s.

Specifically, UEG's 400V SiC bridge achieves an efficiency of up to 95.6% and ultra-low energy consumption of 12.5kWh/100km for OEMs. At the same time, the electric drive supports a peak wheel end torque of 4450Nm, a peak power of 220kW, a maximum speed of the motor of 21000rpm, and a maximum speed of 210km/h.

FAW Hongqi:

Mass production of SiC electric drive rolled off the assembly line

In March, Hongqi Automobile's New Energy Powertrain Division held a ceremony for the mass production of Hongqi PB85 batteries and M220-220 SiC electric drives.

It is reported that the PB85 battery and M220-220 SiC electric drive, as the core assembly of the Hongqi HME platform, match 5 new energy main sales models such as EH7, E202 and E702, and are also the first batch of mass-produced powertrain products after the CEO system reform of the product project.

It is worth noting that in January this year, Hongqi Automobile also revealed that the first A prototype of the M190/M220 dual-motor electric drive project was successfully trial-produced and rolled off the assembly line in the trial production department of the R&D General Institute, marking the birth of FAW's first torque vectoring dual motor. The M190/M220 dual-motor project is based on the M190/M220 platform technology upgrade and innovation of the whole series of high-voltage platform, SiC power module, flat wire four-motor torque vector electric drive assembly development, to achieve ultra-high performance, ultimate control and safety.

According to the official website, Hongqi Automobile belongs to China FAW Group, and the M220 electric drive system platform is a new generation of high-performance electric drive system platform built by FAW, with the industry's first ultra-high speed of 22000r/min, the world's leading 95.5% highest efficiency, the global order noise of less than 65 decibels and the high power density of 3.2kW/kg, leading similar competing products, of which the speed is increased by nearly 14%.

Jingjin Electric:

The SiC controller passed the mass production audit

In March this year, Jingjin Electric revealed on its official website that audit experts from a large European commercial vehicle group company recently came to Jingjin Electric to carry out the mass production audit of the 800VSiC controller production line, which has now successfully passed the audit to meet the group's strict quality and procurement standards.

It is reported that Jingjin Electric's 800V high-voltage SiC controller is independently developed, and the peak power can reach 300kW to 800kW according to demand, and the maximum efficiency can reach 99.6%. In addition, according to the different working conditions of the vehicle, the energy saving rate of the product is 3%-6% compared with the silicon-based controller, and can maintain the application advantages of high functional safety level, free trailer, and downhill safety.

The approval means that Jingjin Electric's 800V high-performance SiC controller products are qualified to supply heavy trucks, medium trucks and buses to many of the group's global high-end brands. At present, the production line has achieved a high degree of automation, real-time monitoring of the production process, and can meet the co-production of products with multiple configurations.

Hasco Magna:

The 800V-SiC platform inverter went offline

In January this year, HASCO Magna revealed that the local low-cost 800V-SiC platform inverter it had developed for a year would be rolled off the production line on time and with quality in the first half of 2023, and the system 2.0 release would be successfully completed in the same year.

It is reported that the product adopts SiC design, which greatly improves the efficiency of the entire electronic control system, with a maximum efficiency of 99.5%, and with 800V high-voltage platform design, the maximum peak power can reach 300kW, which can be adapted to a variety of models. At the same time, it adopts a miniaturized design concept and offers a high power density of 40 kW/L. The China NEV2.0 2025 indicator has been reached.

According to the official website, Huayu Magna Electric Drive System Co., Ltd. was established in March 2018 and is jointly invested by Huayu Automobile and Magna, and is committed to the design, development and manufacturing of electric drive system assembly products and sub-components of new energy vehicles.

The new motor uses SiC technology

On April 11, ARCFOX Motors, a subsidiary of BAIC BJEV, released a new Darwin 2.0 technology system in Beijing, including new technologies such as Jifeng power motor system and Aurora battery.

Among them, Jifeng Power Motor adopts double-sided plastic packaging SiC technology, coupled with advanced technologies such as silver sintering and double-sided plastic packaging, which can effectively reduce heat production by 78% and achieve an energy conversion efficiency of 99.5%. In addition, the motor uses an 8-layer flat coil, which increases the slot filling rate to 77%, reduces heat production by 20% at high speeds, and the application of the double-sided scale fin heat dissipation structure (dragon scale fin) increases the heat dissipation efficiency by 30%.

Taking the ARCFOX Alpha S5 as an example, the model is equipped with the fourth-generation front and rear dual motors of Jifeng Power, with a total power of more than 530 horsepower, a wheel-end torque of 7000Nm, and a 0-100 acceleration time of only 3.7 seconds.

Inovance United Power:

The Si/SiC electric drive prototype rolled off the production line

On April 11, Inovance United Power announced that the A-prototype of its new generation of high-power 3-in-1 electric drive product, PA4T0, has successfully rolled off the production line.

It is reported that the electric drive product adopts the modular design of core components, and the core components such as power modules and stator and rotor realize the compatible design of Si/SiC and 400V/800V schemes, which can not only meet the different needs of customers for cost/efficiency under the premise that the interface of the assembly to the vehicle remains unchanged, but also facilitate the matching of different battery architectures of the vehicle.

According to different designs, the peak power range of PA4T0 electric drive products can reach 230~260kW, and the peak torque is between 4500~5000Nm, which can meet the strong power and extreme off-road needs of the whole vehicle. At the same time, its peak speed exceeds 1500rpm, which reliably ensures the continuous and stable power output of the vehicle at high speed. In addition, the electric drive is suitable for a wide range of models, which can be applied to a variety of models such as C-class and above passenger cars, medium and large SUVs, MPVs, etc., to meet the matching needs of different OEMs.

It is reported that the total investment of 500 million yuan in Jiangsu Zhikong drive project to build 9 production lines such as new energy vehicle motors and electronic control production lines, up to now 9 production lines have all entered the site, the next step, Zhikong Drive will continue to promote the commissioning and acceptance of production lines and equipment, and strive to complete the commissioning by the end of April this year, to meet the conditions of the whole line of production and customer audit, and to achieve full production and efficiency in October.

Li Shengjie, deputy general manager of Zhikong Drive, said that they have independently developed advanced technologies such as flat wire motors, motor controllers, vehicle domain controllers, and SiC power semiconductors, and thus developed the third generation of four-in-one, all-in-one electric drive assembly and range extender assembly system, with a product power range of 30-160KW to achieve efficient and intelligent control of the powertrain.
