By the end of this year, the first three buildings in the HSITP will be completed successively. The picture shows a schematic diagram of the official website of the park.

Facilitate mutual recognition of R&D achievements between the two places

It is reported that the biodiagnostic research center jointly established by the two parties covers an area of about 30,000 square feet, and will focus on a series of advanced bioassay and bioanalysis research, applications and services. Zhi Zhe hopes that the research results will not only serve hospitals in Hong Kong, but also be extended to China Resources Group's hospitals in the Mainland.

Li Haoyin, director and vice president of China Resources Science and Technology Research Institute (Hong Kong), said that he believed that the mainland and Hong Kong could "connect" the systems between the mainland and Hong Kong through the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park, including mutual recognition of R&D results for the research and development of drugs there.

In the future, CR Research Institute will focus on the development and commercialization of kits and testing equipment for early tumor screening, cancer classification, autoimmune disease course tracking, and infectious disease pathogens. In terms of proteomics testing, China Resources Research Institute will hire Qin Jun, director of the National Protein Science Center (Beijing) and professor of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at Baylor College of Medicine, as the chief scientist of the institute, to preside over the urine protein detection project for kidney disease.

Cooperate with Hong Kong enterprises to develop AI robots for the elderly

In addition, China Resources Research Institute has also established a joint R&D center for intelligent robots for the elderly with Hong Kong start-up Lubang Technology to carry out a project of intelligent robots for the rejuvenation of the elderly, and is preparing to develop artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to achieve accurate fall detection equipment, which is expected to be applied in the toilets of public housing, hospitals and nursing homes in Hong Kong.

Mak Qianyu, Chief Scientist of the Joint Research Center for Elderly Care Robots of the Life and Health Research Institute of China Resources Science and Technology Research Institute, and Co-founder and Director of Lubang Technology, hopes that the use of intelligent robots can save time in diagnosis. At present, they are discussing cooperation with nursing homes and rehabilitation centers in Hong Kong, and will extend them to China Resources Group's nursing homes in mainland China in the future. He said that the AI algorithm can also be applied to maintenance, even the gas pipeline of China Resources Gas (1193) within the China Resources department.

Li Haoran said that with the gradual refinement of the silver hair and health market, the system can be applied to the medical and pharmaceutical fields such as diet, detection, disease prevention and treatment of the elderly in the future, so as to promote the quality of life of the elderly. He expects that in the future, it can even be expanded to Chinese medicine, Chinese medicine and other fields.

The Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park is speeding up and increasing its volume

The Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park is about to open! These 59 enterprises and institutions are the first batch to join

The Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park (HKITP) and the Shenzhen Park across the river together form the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Co-operation Zone in the Loop.

According to the official website of the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park, the park covers an area of 87 hectares and will be developed in two phases. Phase 1 has a total gross floor area of approximately 1 million square meters and will provide wet laboratories or advanced manufacturing R&D buildings, dry laboratories or offices, industry-university-research institutes, talent apartments, visitor accommodation facilities, commercial and ancillary facilities, etc. The first three buildings in the first batch will be completed progressively from the end of this year. In addition to the first batch, the remaining sites of Phase 1 will be used to speed up the construction of high-quality scientific research and industrial facilities through investment attraction and market forces.

In addition to promoting hardware development, innovative cross-border elements such as software arrangements for people, logistics, capital and data flows are also the key to the "One River, Two Banks" and "One Zone, Two Parks" of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Co-operation Zone in the Loop. Its core value is to bring together I&T talents and technologies from both places, coupled with advanced infrastructure and state-of-the-art R&D facilities, to pave the way for I&T enterprises to succeed. In addition, with the goal of achieving net-zero emissions, the HSITP focuses on smart, green and resilient infrastructure to create a vibrant and distinctive sustainable community.

The first batch of development of the HSITP comprises 4 wet laboratory buildings. Wet laboratories have higher ceiling and load-bearing requirements than general buildings and dry laboratories/offices, and are required to provide special equipment such as exhaust ducts, laboratory gas/pure water/vacuum supply, high electrical load requirements, wastewater treatment, ventilation systems, fire fighting equipment, etc. At the same time, the first batch of development also includes a common pipe trough and district cooling system, as well as network facilities and network security systems that will cover the entire campus in the future.

On the other hand, the HSITPL will adopt MiC to build talent apartments and build a variety of smart and environmentally friendly facilities. To encourage the use of electric vehicles and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from conventional vehicles, HSITP will also equip parking spaces with electric vehicle charging devices, construct cycle tracks and parking spaces for bicycle sharing. Smart facilities will also be introduced, including unmanned shops, automated parking systems, driverless systems, smart water meters, electricity meters, etc., to showcase smart design.

Technology enterprises have come to Hong Kong to demonstrate internationalization

Hong Kong Commercial Daily commentator Lin Songnian

The Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park (HKITP) held a partnership kick-off ceremony on the 18th, signing memorandums of understanding (MoU) with 59 partner organizations from the Mainland, Europe and the United States, marking the Park's imminent entry into the official operation stage. The large number of technology enterprises in Hong Kong and the peak of the lineup are a vote of confidence in the development of Hong Kong's I&T industry, demonstrating the strong support for Hong Kong's development into an international I&T hub, and it is believed that it will play a significant role in further improving Hong Kong's I&T ecosystem and developing new quality productivity.

The active development of I&T has long been a social consensus, and it is widely believed that this is the only way for Hong Kong to promote economic and industrial diversification and achieve high-quality development. To this end, the HKSAR Government announced the "Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Development Blueprint" last year, launching the "Industry-University-Research 1+ Scheme", which aims to unleash the potential of local universities in the transformation and commercialisation of scientific research results. Following the introduction of two batches of key enterprises, representatives of nearly 60 enterprises have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Hong Kong, which will surely inject new impetus into Hong Kong's scientific research and economic development.

There are still various misconceptions about the development of innovation and technology in Hong Kong, which need to be clarified urgently. One is that Hong Kong is too costly and scares investors. Cost is one of the factors influencing investment intentions, but if other factors are taken into account, it may not hinder I&T development, as evidenced by the fact that a large number of companies are "voting with their feet" and setting up in Hong Kong. A representative of a biopharmaceutical company who attended the kick-off ceremony said that the cost of drug research and development in Hong Kong is not too far behind that of the mainland. More importantly, Hong Kong's strong competitiveness under the "One Country, Two Systems" arrangement, including its simple and low tax policy, and its huge advantages such as a robust financial system, free flow of capital, rule of law, professionalism and internationalisation, are highly attractive to high-end talents at home and abroad, which many mainland cities do not have.

Another misconception is that the presence of a large number of mainland technology enterprises will undermine Hong Kong's international character. In recent years, the mainland has made significant achievements in various fields, especially in the field of innovation and technology, such as BGI, which signed a memorandum of cooperation this time, which is the world's leading frontier institution in life sciences. The favour of these technology companies in Hong Kong will certainly strengthen Hong Kong's R&D capabilities. At the same time, Hong Kong can strengthen its role as a "super-connector" and "super-value-added person" by cooperating with relevant enterprises to "go global", and further enhance its international influence.

As a highly open international metropolis, Hong Kong welcomes enterprises from all over the world to invest with real money. In fact, the backgrounds of the first batch of partner organisations are very diverse – 20 from Hong Kong, 25 from the Mainland and 14 from overseas, including the US, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, Australia, the UK and France, of which 24 are setting up in Hong Kong for the first time or expanding their business, with a total investment of more than billions of dollars. This diversity underscores Hong Kong's unique advantages as an international city.

The public and the industry have deep expectations for these partners. Nearly half of the 59 enterprises are engaged in life and health technology, new energy and microelectronics, which is not only in line with the development goals of the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park, but also conducive to Hong Kong becoming a global hub for innovation and technology resources. Looking ahead, we hope that the authorities will engage with more potential partners to further expand Hong Kong's I&T portfolio and improve the I&T ecosystem, and at the same time, we hope that Hong Kong and Shenzhen will deepen co-operation and implement more cross-boundary facilitation measures that will help promote I&T development, so as to benefit the partners of the Hong Kong-Shenzhen HSITP and contribute to the development of Hong Kong into an international I&T hub.
