After in-depth discussion and careful evaluation, the evaluation committee unanimously agreed that the "heavy oil slurry bed hydrodeconstruction and conversion technology" has advanced indicators and strong applicability, forming a new process of efficient conversion and lightening of heavy oil that is different from conventional heavy oil hydrocracking, which has reached the international leading level.

On April 16, the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation organized an evaluation meeting on the achievement of "Heavy Oil Slurry Bed Hydrodeconstruction and Conversion Technology" in Beijing. The meeting invited 8 petrochemical industry experts, including Academician He Mingyuan of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Academician Zhang Tao, and National Design Master Zhu Huaxing, to evaluate the technology.

Tian Zhijian, director of the Fossil Energy and Applied Catalysis Research Department of Dalian Chemical Physics Research of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a strategic talent of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, made a comprehensive report on the work, research and novelty search report of heavy oil slurry bed hydrodeconstruction and conversion technology on behalf of the achievement completion unit at the evaluation meeting. Since 2015, Tian Zhijian's research team has cooperated with Karamay Xianneng Science and Technology Innovation Heavy Oil Development Company and other units to build the country's only 1,000-ton inferior heavy oil slurry bed hydrodeconstruction pilot platform, which has carried out tests on a variety of inferior heavy oils, with a conversion rate of more than 97%, solving the problems of high cost and low yield of light oil in traditional heavy oil processing technology, and realizing the "dry and squeezed out" of crude oil.

The project was established in 2017, the project was handed over in August 2018, the first test run was successful in November 2020 and produced various distillates, and the slurry bed hydrogenation full conversion technology such as vacuum residue, ethylene cracking tar, and ultra-heavy oil has been successfully developed, and the world's first 200,000 tons/year industrial demonstration plant is currently being built in Karamay High-tech Zone, and will be promoted nationwide in the near future.

Since its launch, the project has received strong support from the Science and Technology Department of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and the Science and Technology Bureau of Karamay City, as well as the support of tens of millions of yuan from the Science and Technology Venture Capital Fund of the Karamay Municipal Government.

The development and application of heavy oil slurry bed hydrodeconstruction and conversion technology can not only improve the utilization efficiency of heavy oil resources, but also reduce energy consumption and environmental pollution, which has important economic and social significance, especially helps to solve the problems of heavy oil difficult to exploit and heavy oil difficult to process, and can provide key technical support and new path of raw material guarantee for Xinjiang oil and gas industry cluster to extend, supplement and strengthen the chain.
