Rough and delicate

(1) I happened to flip through Qi Baishi's album and got a great inspiration from it.

(2) There are many paintings in the album that combine rough brushwork and fine brushwork. There are a lot of works of this kind, and old man Shiraishi painted a lot. They are probably a combination of some kind of plant and one or two grass insects. Plant pen, grass insect pen. Those lotus leaves and bushes are roughly like splashing ink, rough and bold, as if they were casually swayed with a large brush dipped in ink, while those cicadas and grasshoppers are painted very finely, and they are really deliberately painted. The slender tentacles, the veins on the wings, and the hook teeth on the feet of insects are all recognizable. These rough and delicate brushstrokes combine to make them complement each other and complement each other.

(3) There are some noteworthy phenomena in Qi Baishi's album: there are some such works, which are only half painted. This half is not the "easy to draw" splash of ink plants that people imagine, but those grass insects with fine brushwork. Obviously, in the painter's mind, a few strokes of splashed ink are sometimes much more difficult than fine brushwork, and he has to wait until he is in a particularly good spirit before he writes, and unfortunately some of them have not been painted, and the painter has given up.

(4) The combination of rough and delicate, artistic brushwork and fine brushwork, generalization and exquisiteness, vast background and clear things is an important method of expression in art. In these paintings, for example, the presence of plants made of splashed ink makes people feel that the grass insects with wings are not active on a blank sheet of paper, but hide in the dense and deep grass and trees, and all this makes the grass insects appear more delicate and small.

(5) Methods of expression such as this are often permeated by many people who are well aware of the mystery in all aspects of the arts. In the expression of the mountains and far-reaching paintings, we sometimes see an old man with a recognizable eyebrow standing nearby; in music, there are syllables of "", there are also melodies of "", in drama, there are scenes of hurried fights and a few moments of passing the scene, and there are also seiko scenes that once you sing it for half a day in a lifetime...... For the doctrine is the same. In literature, there are many examples of this. Du Fu's poem: "Two yellow orioles sing green willows, and a line of egrets go to the blue sky." window

Including Xiling Qianqiu snow, the door berths the Dongwu Wanli ship. How delicate the first two sentences are, how rough the last two sentences are! Putting this little poem and the old man's painting of grass and insects together, you can't help but be amazed to find that although they lived in a time more than a thousand years apart and devoted themselves to different types of art, they were completely identical in mastering the essence of the laws of art.

(6) It is both general and delicate, which is a method of artistic expression.

(7) From such an important method of expression, I thought: art has strong requirements, so the generalization should be extensive and the portrayal should be delicate. Only in this way can it be clean and full of image. Things are dialectical, so the artistic methods used to reflect things should also be dialectical.

(8) Brief generalization and fine carving require us to spare no effort, and sometimes the effort used in brief summary may be greater than that of fine carving.
