At 22:42 on April 16, a crane suddenly caught fire at the ramp of the G50 Shanghai-Chongqing Expressway in Caidian District, Wuhan City, about one kilometer away from the exit of the Wuhan West Toll Station. After receiving the alarm, the Wuhan Fire and Rescue Command Center immediately dispatched 2 fire trucks and 12 firefighters to the scene to deal with it.
After the firefighters arrived at the scene, they found that a 20-ton crane was parked on the rightmost lane, no one was trapped in the car, the fire on the left front wheel and the front part of the crane was burning violently, and thick smoke was billowing from the scene. Firefighters immediately set up a cordon around the scene and dispatched two water cannons to suppress the fire. During the continuous spraying of the water gun, a large amount of white smoke came out of the head of the crane. A few minutes later, the fire was extinguished. Subsequently, the firefighters continued to use water cannons to cool down the fire site of the crane, and handed over the scene to the relevant departments after careful inspection to confirm that there was no danger of re-ignition.
According to the driver, Mr. Mei, he drove the crane from Zhijiang City to Wuhan City alone that day, and when the vehicle drove to the ramp about one kilometer away from the exit of the Wuhan West Toll Station, there was a sudden smell of burnt paste in the cab, and it was observed through the window that the left front wheel began to smoke, accompanied by open flames. Mr. Mui immediately pulled over and took out the fire extinguisher from the car to extinguish the fire, but the fire spread too quickly and the open flame could not be extinguished after the fire extinguisher was used up. Subsequently, he called the 119 police for help.
