As the first comprehensive sci-fi award for the world independently created by China, the establishment of the Science Fiction Planet Award marks an important step in the internationalization of China's sci-fi industry. The award was initiated by Wang Jinkang, Liu Cixin, Wu Yan and Guo Fan, four leading figures in the science fiction industry, aiming to recognize and reward individuals and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to the promotion and prosperity of the science fiction industry, and the scope of the award covers technology, literature, film and television and other fields. At the 2023 China Science Fiction Conference, the Science Fiction Planet Award successfully presented the first Science Fiction Technology Award. As an important part of the China Science Fiction Convention, the Science Fiction Planet Award provides a platform for the science fiction industry at home and abroad to display and exchange, and plays an important role in promoting technological innovation, promoting industrial exchanges and enhancing industrial influence.
The second Science Fiction Planet Award will be launched in June 2023, and the selection of four categories of Science Fiction Technology Award, Science Fiction Literature Award, Science Fiction Work Award and Outstanding Contribution Award will be carried out in an all-round way, which has aroused widespread attention and enthusiasm for participation. There are 458 valid applications from Japan, Italy, the United States, Canada, Germany and other countries and regions, as well as 28 provinces and cities in China, as well as Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, demonstrating the prosperity and vitality of the science fiction industry. After qualification review, offline nomination, preliminary review and review, a number of outstanding projects stood out and entered the finals.
Under the chairmanship of honorary chairmen Wang Jinkang and Liu Cixin, and judges Wu Yan, Sun Lijun, Cui Shuguang, Wang Lijun and other industry experts, 10 champions including the best sci-fi creation technology, the best sci-fi experience technology, the best sci-fi product innovation, the best sci-fi novel, the best sci-fi novella, the best sci-fi novella, the best sci-fi short story, the best sci-fi film, the best sci-fi drama, the best sci-fi inspirational work, and the outstanding contribution award were selected, and 27 winners and several finalists were selected.
