After 5 years of changing two pre-filters, some words are too real to spit out and unpleasant

author:Obuchi commented on the house

Some people say: the front is the most cost-effective, you must buy it.

Some people say: The front is the IQ tax, don't buy it.

What is the real situation? Obuchi installed a pre-filter when he was renovated, and after three years of moving in, that is, the year before last, he replaced it with another one. I have used it for a total of 5 years, and I think I am very qualified to talk about the experience of using the pre-filter.

Is there any effect?

Looking back on my experience over the years, I particularly understand the "polarization of word-of-mouth". Let's start with my experience:

When I first moved in, my community was newly built, and there was no municipal tap water, so I had to use my own well water. At that time, the water quality was very poor, and the faucets and showers were often clogged with sediment. Once the pre-filter is installed, this problem rarely occurs.

The faucet is clogged with sediment

The pre-filter can filter large particles of impurities such as sediment and rust in the water, but the filtration effect is not 100%. There is still a possibility of clogging the faucet with a lot of sediment.

Two years after moving in, our community was finally connected to the municipal tap water, the water was very clean, and the effect of the pre-filter became very ineffective - I even removed the pre-filter for a while, and found that the water quality had not changed.

No wonder some people say that the pre-filter is an IQ tax!

It turns out that in places with good water quality, the effect of the pre-filter is almost zero.

How much does it cost?

When it comes to water purification equipment, I believe everyone has a worry: is the cost of using this thing high? After all, water purifiers and water softeners need to replace filter elements and add consumables, and many people are reluctant to use them when they buy them.

Obuchi wants to say: The cost of using the pre-filter is really low!

It's negligible – it doesn't require filter changes or consumables. There is no need for water or electricity in daily work, and the only cost is flushing:

Every once in a while (I usually do it every 3 months) I turn on the backwash mode and flush the filter inside. At this time, some water may be used, and the rinse time is 30 seconds, and the water consumption is about 3L.

Are there any side effects?

I also had some concerns before buying pre-filters, and these two are the biggest ones.

I. Will it affect the water pressure

Nowadays, the pore size of the pre-filter is basically 40 μm, and the effect on water pressure is almost zero. Of course, I'm a resident, and I don't have high requirements for water pressure. If it is commercial or industrial, the impact may be greater.

II. Will there be secondary pollution

All filter products have the possibility of secondary contamination. So when I first bought the front, I turned on the backwash very often, for fear that the filter would be dirty and pollute the water. But then I got lazy and the frequency of flushing decreased.

Backwash switch

For the first few years of poor water quality, irregular flushing did pollute the water, and the sediment in the water increased significantly. But then the water quality improved, and there was no longer a problem of secondary pollution. I haven't had a backwash in the last year, and the water is still clean.

Purchase installation recommendations

- Do you want to buy it or not

Obuchi's advice is to look at the quality of the water: if there is a lot of sediment and rust in the water, buy it, and if you don't see impurities in the water, then don't buy it. Of course, the price of a pre-filter will not be very high -

If you don't care about the hundreds of dollars, you can close your eyes and enter.

- What kind of one to buy?

Obuchi's suggestion is "the simpler the better"! My family bought one for more than 300 yuan at the beginning, and the effect was obvious. Later, the water quality improved, and the effect was not obvious, so I thought it was not good enough. changed to more than 1,000 ones, but it still didn't work.

This proves that the effect of the pre-filter is not proportional to the price.

But there is one thing that is still expensive: backwashing! The cheaper ones are just washed with water, and the better ones will be washed on both sides, and there will be scrapers for cleaning. The worse the water quality, the more important it is to ensure that the filter is clean.

- Installation recommendations

I feel like the installation of the pre-filter in my house is very good: there is a mains valve for running water under the kitchen sink, and I put the pre-filter behind this valve.

Some people's main valves are in the tube wells of the corridors, so they can only install the pre-filter in the tube wells. However, the environment in the tube well is not good, and it is easy to freeze the front in winter. If a water leak is not detected in time, it will also cause problems for neighbors.

So my mother's pre-filter is not installed in the tube well, but in the kitchen - but this has a small filtration range, and can only provide filtration for the sink, not clean water for the whole house.

In addition, there is another disadvantage of this installation method in the picture above:

The pre-filter is not installed vertically, and although it does not affect the filtration effect, it does affect the backwash effect. So if possible, try to keep the pre-filter vertical!
