I recently came up from a week-long trip to the United States and was invited by a family of three from a friend, and I couldn't contain my excitement.
Now, I want to share with you what I have seen in the United States, a prosperous and mysterious country in the eyes of the world.
Before I arrived in the U.S., my knowledge of it was limited to descriptions on the Internet: towering skyscrapers, affluent neighborhoods, world-leading technology and culture.
However, when I actually set foot on this land, I found that there was a big gap between the reality and the imagination.
The buildings, although there is no shortage of high-rise buildings, are more of low and quaint houses, and the streets are relatively old.
Compared to the modern urban scene I imagined, this place reveals a different charm.
What's even more surprising is that most of the infrastructure such as pipes and lines here is exposed, which is very different from the neat and hidden facilities we see back home.
There are still many people in such a place who sharpen their heads and drill into it, and stay in China well, isn't it?
And in my life, I have also discovered many phenomena that are different from those in China.
For example, the high-speed rail ride experience here is far less comfortable than the high-speed rail on the mainland, noisy and bumpy.
What's even more unbelievable is that there are homeless people living in the high-speed rail.
This made me realize that the United States is not as rich and stable as we imagined.
But in my mind, the United States is a rich country. Is this the answer to the saying that the moon is round in foreign countries?
In addition, I noticed the attitude of Americans towards food handling. They strictly follow the expiration date, and expired food is thrown in the trash even if it is unopened.
However, these discarded foods do not go to those who need them, such as the homeless, which is undoubtedly a huge waste.
Once a friend took me on the road, and I saw several Chinese women picking up a lot of things in the garbage can, and they couldn't hold them, and I didn't know what to do with them when they brought them back.
I also noticed some interesting differences in my habits.
For example, Americans often don't turn off the lights and air conditioners at night, which is undoubtedly a waste of energy in our opinion, and we ordinary people are reluctant to waste these wasted electricity bills.
What shocked me even more was that American women did not have the same custom of confinement as mainland women after giving birth.
They even drink directly after giving birth, which seems to me to be very incredible.
When we Chinese women are confined, it is really when the ancestors make offerings, and this cannot be eaten, and that cannot be eaten.
And in the United States, it's really casual, you can eat whatever you want, drink whatever you want, and do whatever you want. Probably this is the difference in physique.
On the day of my final return trip, I met a Chinese guy on the road who was broadcasting live on the side of the road.
I stopped there and listened for a while, and he really described the United States as a paradise, and he said that they were a family of five and would never go back to China.
Everything is good in the United States, I just want to ask weakly, are you still Chinese?
I don't deny that American education does pay more attention to cultivating students' creativity and critical thinking, emphasizing students' initiative and autonomy.
This type of education encourages students to think about different perspectives of problems, and develops their ability to innovate and solve problems.
And Chinese education does have important characteristics in terms of knowledge transfer. To put it bluntly, it is to instill knowledge, a lot of exercises, and help students build a solid knowledge base.
After this trip, I realized more deeply that every country is unique in its own way, and we cannot judge the true face of a country by its superficial prosperity or poverty alone.
In my mind, China is undoubtedly a safe, comfortable and full of life.
Whether it's night or day, we are free to travel and enjoy the beauty of life.
This trip to the United States allowed me to see the real face behind the prosperity, and it also made me cherish and love my motherland even more.
