How to choose journalism, communication, journalism and communication at Zhengzhou University?

author:Senior Luo is admitted to graduate school

Many students have decided on a good school, but when choosing a major, they are entangled again. That's because I don't know enough about the differences between several majors. This tweet will explain in detail the issue of professional distinction.

There are three majors for graduate students of the New School of Communication, namely: Journalism, Communication, Journalism and Communication, and a single set of topics.

As for the "advertising communication" and "new media" that some students inquired about, these are not the majors to be applied for, but the research direction. The field of study has no impact on revision and admission, and we will explain how to choose it in this article.

01 The difference between Zheng Daxin's master's degree and professional master's degree

(1) In terms of school system

All are 3 years. However, the duration of the course is one and a half years, and the other year and a half is to write a thesis, do an internship or prepare for the doctoral examination.

(2) Tuition fees and scholarships

The tuition fee is 8,000 yuan/year, and the same is true for master's and professional master's scholarships, and there is no difference.

(3) Training

1. The total difference

  • The master's degree attaches great importance to theoretical research and participation in academic activities, and the master's degree attaches importance to practice, and the internship will be arranged or found by oneself in the next 1.5 years, and a practical report is required.
  • The master's degree focuses on practice and flexibility (e.g., there is a compulsory video course), and the master's degree is more research-oriented (e.g., there is a compulsory course for thesis writing).
  • The professional master is an on-campus tutor + an off-campus industry mentor. However, there are no external tutors yet.

2. Differences in training goals

  • Journalism: Graduates should master the practical business of news gathering and writing, news editing, news production, etc., and at the same time attach importance to the cultivation of theoretical research and teaching ability, and be competent for the practical work of journalism and professional teaching and scientific research work of universities and scientific research institutions.
  • Communication: Graduates should master practical business skills in the fields of advertising and communication, media economy, network and new media or cultural industry, and at the same time attach importance to theoretical research and teaching ability training, and be competent in front-line practical work as well as teaching and scientific research work in universities and scientific research institutions.
  • Journalism and Communication: Cultivate "all-media high-level news and communication talents" with high comprehensive literacy, solid theoretical foundation and comprehensive practical ability for news units, media organizations and advertising companies, governments, enterprises and institutions, etc., and cultivate "all-media high-level news and communication talents" who can meet the needs of the current media integration and development, not only master traditional skills such as collection, writing, editing and commentary, but also integrate new media skills such as photography, videography, word processing, and web page production. High-level applied talents with integrated news communication tasks, theoretical research and practical ability.

3. Specific differences in curriculum design

  • Journalism: News Reporting and News Style Research, Network News Communication Research, News Reporting and News Style Research, News Planning, News Communication Policy, Regulations and Ethics
  • Communication: Film and Television Communication Studies, Frontier Theories of Communication, Media Management and Management, Media Criticism Studies, International Communication Studies
  • Journalism and Communication: Cultural and Creative Industry Research, Online News Communication Research, News Gathering and Writing Frontier Research, New Media Research, News Communication Policy, Regulations and Ethics, Video Planning and Production, Media Operation and Management
  • Graduate 2: A large number of elective courses, master's and master's degrees are basically the same.

(4) Graduation

1. Thesis word count requirements. 30,000 words for master's degree and 25,000 for master's degree.

2. Literature requirements for graduation thesis. There are no less than 50 master's papers (volumes), and there is no requirement for master's degree.

3. Other requirements. Publish at least 1 core journal paper for master's degree, and submit all-media works for master's degree.

(5) Employment

1. If you take the doctoral exam and go to college, you will have more advantages for a master's degree, but there is no problem for a master's degree to become a teacher in a university.

2. In the examination and compilation.

The positions that can be applied for with a master's degree include "Journalism and Communication" and "Journalism and Communication".

Master's degree (journalism, communication, journalism and communication are the same) can apply for positions such as "journalism and communication", "journalism and communication", "journalism" and "communication".

Theoretically, there are more positions that can be applied for by a master's degree, but this depends on the rigor of the review. Some positions may be carried out in strict accordance with the above classifications, or even strictly control the professional code, while others will be reviewed more leniently. For example, in the 2023 Henan Provincial Examination, "Journalism and Communication" positions can be applied for master's and master's degrees, and the review is not so strict. When actually applying for the exam, in order to avoid the impact of the registration due to the failure of the review, you can contact the application unit to consult the professional restrictions.

There is basically no difference in other employment, and now there is no saying that the gold content of a master's degree is not as good as that of a master's degree.

(6) Entrance examination

1. Public classes. The same as the political exam, the master's English 1 is more difficult than the master's English 2.

2. Professional courses. The difficulty is basically the same. Whether you have a master's degree or a professional master's degree, you must learn basic knowledge, practice, and hot knowledge, which is the same review.

3. Scale-giving. Judging from the situation in the past few years, the score for professional masters is also higher, which is also related to the training method.

4. Reporting ratio. In most years, the post-graduate program is more > communication > journalism.

(7) Adjustment

Generally, a master's degree can be transferred to a master's degree, and a master's degree cannot be transferred to a master's degree. The transfer here refers to the transfer to other schools, and there is no mutual transfer of master's degree and master's degree in the hospital.

02 How to choose Zheng Daxin's master's degree in communication?

1. If you have a good score in English, then you can choose to study for a master's degree, and you can open up the gap with other candidates in English I. If your English is poor, such as failing to pass level 4, then it is recommended to choose a master's degree.

2. If you like academics and write papers, it is recommended to choose a master's degree, because you need to issue core journals during your master's studies, and if you are very repulsed by this and prefer to shoot video works, then it is recommended to choose a master's degree, which has compulsory video courses, and you should also shoot all-media works after graduation.

3. If you must take the doctoral or public examination, especially the doctoral examination, then it is more recommended to study for a master's degree. You can also take the master's exam, but the master's degree is more advantageous.

03 What is the difference between journalism and communication at Zhengda?

1. These two majors are basically the same. There is not much difference in terms of school system, tuition fees, scholarships and grants, and employment. In terms of training, the curriculum is biased.

The main basic courses of journalism include: news reporting and news style research, online news communication research, news communication policy, regulations and ethics, media criticism research, and news planning.

The main basic courses of communication include: Frontier Theoretical Research of Communication, Film and Television Communication Research, International Communication Studies, Media Management and Management, and Media Criticism Research.

But the electives are the same, journalism and communication can be chosen according to your interests, and some tutors may suggest that you choose according to your research direction.

2. In the postgraduate entrance examination, the content of the preliminary examination is exactly the same, it is ten books, the questions of the preliminary examination are the same, and the difficulty of review is also the same.

3. In terms of graduate supervisors, although the research directions corresponding to journalism and communication on the enrollment catalog play a small role, there is a supervisor corresponding to each direction, if you already have a favorite supervisor, then you can see which research direction you are in, whether it belongs to journalism or communication.

4. Admission. It is mainly reflected in the re-examination line and the report ratio. There are two ways to underline the two majors: unified and separate.

(1) Uniform marking. In the 16-19 and 23 postgraduate entrance examinations in the past few years, Zhengda New Communication Journalism and Communication have been ranked and marked in a unified manner in recent years, that is to say, the two majors are selected together when recruiting, for example, the two majors recruit a total of 40 people, so the candidates put a piece to rank about 48 (1.2:1 re-examination ratio) to delineate the re-examination line. The number of applicants for journalism is small, and naturally there are fewer high-scoring candidates, and the number of admitted students will be smaller.

(2) Separate lines. In the 20-22 and 24 postgraduate examinations, journalism and communication are marked separately, which is to delineate their respective re-examination lines according to their respective enrollment plans. Also because of the small number of journalism applicants, in this case, the re-examination line of journalism is often lower than that of communication.

In the case of unified marking, the re-examination line and reporting ratio of the two are the same, and you only need to look at the total data of the master's degree. In most years, the re-examination line of communication is higher than that of journalism.

  • In 20 years, the re-examination line of journalism was 21 points lower than that of communication.
  • In 21 years, the re-examination line of journalism was 5 points higher than that of communication.
  • In 22 years, the re-examination line of journalism was 23 points lower than that of communication.
  • 24 Graduate School Entrance Examination, Journalism is 14 points lower than Communication.

However, it is impossible to say exactly how journalism and communication will change in the next year. Because everyone knows the information about this score, will everyone feel that the communication score is high, and turn to journalism, and finally the journalism score is high?

Therefore, when choosing journalism or communication, we can only tell you the difference, and we can't help you make a choice.

04 The influence and choice of research directions

Zheng University has some research directions under each major of master's and professional master's degrees. The research direction has basically no impact on the postgraduate entrance examination.

First of all, there is no impact on the admission of exams. As long as you decide on the major, the test questions are the same regardless of the direction. Admission is not based on research direction, only according to major, and there is no special separate enrollment quota for each research direction, only according to major.

Secondly, the research direction has little impact on your studies and employment. There are several majors in Xinchuan, no matter which major or which research direction, the teachers are the same, and the elective courses can also be selected according to their own interests. Most tutors do not have to follow their direction of study, and can choose courses and write papers according to their interests. Even many teachers like that their students have their own research directions.

However, the research direction has a slight influence on the choice of supervisor. When you register online in October, you need to fill in the major and research direction you are applying for. During the re-examination, the teacher recommends that the tutor be selected in your own direction first. But in fact, you can really cross directions and choose majors. And in the end, if the first tutor of a volunteer is not selected, other tutors will be selected.

If you are interested in mentoring, you can choose the direction according to the mentor. If you don't have an intent tutor, choose an intent direction and choose a tutor during the retest.

Generally, the research direction will not be re-selected when the re-examination is carried out, because it is not required. Ultimately, your research direction is to follow your mentor. For example, if you start with a direction A, but in the end you choose a mentor who is in direction B, your direction is B.
