Like iOS 17.4, the iOS 17.5 version is mainly designed to comply with the EU's Digital Markets Act and adjust the sideloading feature for iPhone users in the EU.

The first beta of iOS 17.5 introduced support for web-based sideloading, allowing developers to make their app downloads available directly on their websites. And from the second beta version, iPhone users will be able to officially download the app from the EU's website.

Like the iOS 17.4 change that added an alternative app marketplace, this feature is limited to iPhones and can only be used in the EU.

Developers offering apps need to be members of the Apple Developer Program for two or more consecutive years and must have had more than 1 million first installs on iOS in the previous year to offer app downloads.

All apps downloaded from the website onto the iPhone must be submitted to Apple's notary process, and while these apps are not subject to any commission to Apple, developers are required to pay a €0.5 "core technology fee".

In addition, some developers found out in the code of iOS 17.5 that Apple is about to introduce support for third-party project trackers, a feature that Apple has been working on since last year.

It is reported that Apple and Google have developed a cross-platform solution for sending unwanted tracking alerts, and it looks like iOS 17.5 will let iPhone users know when there are third-party trackers nearby.

"You can disable this item and prevent it from sharing its location with the owner. To do this, follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer of this project on the website," reads the iOS 17.5 code updated by Apple.
