  Every semester, the freshmen class of Rotary High School organizes a visit to the school history museum. Under the leadership of the students of the School History Research Club, they visited the school history wall to learn about the centennial development history of Rotary Middle School, learn the patriotic dedication deeds of outstanding alumni of Rotary, and absorb the youthful strength of unremitting struggle.

  Rotary Middle School, established on October 11, 1918 and officially opened on November 4 of the same year, was the first railway middle school in China. In February 1918, Zhan Tianyou, the first chief engineer of China Railway, and 12 other people jointly initiated the organization of the "Railway Colleagues Education Association", in order to effectively solve the problem of the railway workers' disciples, the "Education Association" took "Rotary Public School" as the unified name of the school, and prepared to build a school for the children of employees along the "Fourth Road", Tianjin Rotary Middle School as one of them, and the original full name was "Tianjin Rotary Public School No. 1 Middle School".

  The word "Rotary" is ancient, and it is often seen in the poetry of the Han and Wei dynasties, which originally meant "winged wheel", and in the old days, it was often extended to the so-called "Daya Rotary", which was used to praise people of virtue or express the yearning for lofty ideals. The name of Rotary Middle School is said to refer to the allusions of "Lingfu Rotary" (from "Zuo Chuan: The Second Year of Xuangong") and "Rotary Push Hub" (from "Historical Records: Jingyan Family"), which respectively reflect the meaning of gratitude and helping others to establish a career, so as to inspire Rotary students to be inspirational and strive to study the country when the nation is in danger.

  Chern is making his mark here

  Chern, one of the greatest geometricians of the 20th century, is known as the "father of integral differential geometry". On October 28, 1911, Chern was born in Xiushui County, Jiaxing, Zhejiang. His father named him "Provincial Body", which is to hope that his son can be like Zengzi, "I am three times a day and I am self-conscious".

  Chern loved mathematics when he was a teenager and liked to think independently and develop independently. I find mathematics interesting and easy, and often "take the initiative to read books by myself, not what reference books are assigned by the teacher". In 1922, Chern moved to Tianjin with his father, and in 1923, he entered the first grade of Rotary Middle School and officially became a member of Rotary.

  Yao Ruike, the person in charge of the history museum of Rotary Middle School, told reporters: Rotary was a middle school run by the Ministry of Communications at that time, and it had abundant funds and excellent teachers. The principal attaches great importance to mathematics, teaches geometry personally, and is very demanding, and Chern often copes with it easily, sometimes doing 20 or 30 problems in an hour, so he is liked by the principal. In addition, the school also has several good math teachers such as Zheng Cichun and Peng Hansan.

  In 1926, Chern-chern published seven articles in the Rotary school magazine. In "Sixteen Methods of the Geometric Theorem", he said: "Geometry occupies a very important place in mathematics, and not only those who are interested in the study of science should pay attention to it, but even ordinary secondary school students should take it as their proper common knowledge." This essay shows his deep understanding of the role of geometry training in the development of intelligence, and also reveals a unique ability for logical reasoning.

  In 1926, Chern graduated from junior high school and entered the Department of Mathematics of Nankai University at the age of 15 with his extraordinary mathematical talent, which opened his lifelong fate with Nankai University. In his youth, Chern-sei-shen studied in Germany, moved to the United States in 1937, and served as a professor at the University of Chicago and the University of California, Berkeley, a member of the American Academy of Sciences, and a life honorary member of the New York Academy of Sciences. He won the WOlf Prize in Mathematics, the highest honor in the international mathematical community, and was hailed as "the great geometrician of the 20th century". Although he is abroad, Chern's persistent and deep attachment to the motherland is always in his heart.

  In the early 70s of the last century, Chern was one of the first Chinese scientists to return to China for a visit. After the reform and opening up, Mr. Chern made it clear that he wanted to "return to his roots", and Hu Guoding, then vice president of Nankai University, discussed this matter with Mr. Chern during his visit to the United States. From that time to the official establishment of the Nankai Institute of Mathematics in the summer of 1985, it took a great deal of effort in the past four years.

  Bai Chengming, vice president of Nankai University, said: "They have written many letters to each other, and many things have been planned in every detail. In the 80s, Mr. Chern donated four cars to the Institute of Mathematics, which is a remarkable thing. At that time, there was a Mercedes-Benz, and it was the first time I knew what a Mercedes-Benz was. The other $50,000 he received for the Wolf Prize was also donated to the Institute of Mathematics. ”

  On October 17, 1985, the Nankai Institute of Mathematics was formally established. "Based on Nankai, facing the whole country, and looking at the world", this is also Chern Shiingshen's positioning of the Nankai Institute of Mathematics. With the support of the Chinese mathematical community, he trained many outstanding young mathematicians, greatly promoted the development of Chinese mathematics through various forms of academic exchange activities, and enhanced the status of the mainland in the international mathematical community.

  On December 3, 2004, Chern passed away at the age of 93. In front of the Provincial Building of Nankai University, a blackboard-shaped tombstone and 23 low stools form the cemetery of Chern and his wife.   In 1969, Bai Jinsheng, whose parents were railway workers, entered Rotary Middle School to study, from the old school motto "Loyalty, Benevolence and Courage" to the new positioning of "Becoming a Talent to Serve the Country", the Rotary concept of "Striving for Progress, Perseverance, and Serving with Grace" always influenced Bai Jinsheng when he was a student.

  The following year, Bai Jinsheng was assigned to a factory and began to get into contact with electric welding. He has always refused to admit defeat and tried his best to learn. The scorching temperature is easy to burn the arm, coupled with the dazzling light, the eyes burn badly after working for a long time, many young men who entered the factory at the same time can not stand these, and Bai Jinsheng is different, pick up the welding torch and study over and over again, the eyes are so painful that they can't open their eyes and continue to practice, until they can rely on hearing and sense to perceive the effectiveness of electric welding, and even in the blind area can achieve precise electric welding.

  Through skilled operation, Bai Jinsheng has solved hundreds of problems in practical application with "blind spot welding". In addition to opening up "blind spot welding", Bai Jinsheng innovated underwater cast iron and carbon steel welding, and Bai Jinsheng's name is slowly becoming more familiar in the field of welding.

  In the process of building the heavy weapons of the great country, Bai Jinsheng has also been on the front line. In 2008, technical problems were encountered in the manufacturing process of the national large rocket, and the first call was made to Bai Jinsheng. At that time, there were only more than ten hours left for Bai Jinsheng, and if this technical problem could not be solved, the launch date of the large rocket would be affected. Bai Jinsheng calmed down, carefully checked the fault point, with years of experience, tried overnight, Bai Jinsheng innovatively used the bolt plug welding method to solve the technical problems of the large rocket.

  In recent years, Bai Lao has successively invented solar welding machines, ceramic welding machines, etc., and welded parts for "Shenzhou VI", "Shenzhou VII", J-10, J-20, submarines, satellites, rockets and other projects, and has become one of the international welding experts who have won the most international awards in the mainland welding industry.

  Now, Bai Jinsheng's greatest wish is to encourage and influence more children, and Rotary Middle School, the place where he once dreamed of setting sail, has now become a place he often returns.
