Yu Chunzhou, who entered the wood carving industry at the age of 16, has mastered various wood carving techniques in just a few years. Subsequently, he innovated the "splitting method" that emphasizes lines, strength and muscles, and walked out of his own style and characteristics of the artistic path. Using the chopping method to create leopards, Yu Chunzhou will not take more than two days from the beginning to the completion, and even more than an hour can complete the creation of a large billet of leopards, and he is also known as the "Leopard King" who is good at carving leopards.
The reporter saw that the wood carving leopard created by Yu Chunzhou with the chopping knife method was unrestrained but not rude, strong but not ferocious, smooth and not pretentious, full of intimidating momentum and dynamic beauty.
"In the past, leopards were fierce, but now every leopard has a story to tell. Yu Chunzhou told reporters that his leopard is not static, in recent years, more modern elements have been integrated, and the leopard form has gradually changed from the original "fierce" to the current "gentle".

After the "Leopard King" became famous in the industry, Yu Chunzhou began to explore the creation of works with richer cultural connotations. In 2014, he and his team spent four years creating the 32-meter-long "Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival", carving 370 figures on camphor wood, and reproducing the prosperous scene of Bianjing in the Song Dynasty in Zhang Zeduan's "Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival" through another art form.

Subsequently, Yu Chunzhou carefully polished the large-scale wood carving work "The Belt and Road". Using various carving techniques such as round carving, relief carving and openwork carving, the "Belt and Road: Maritime Silk Road" and "Belt and Road: Land Silk Road" are carved on both sides of the 33-meter-long thousand-year-old camphor wood, showing the traditional crafts of ceramic making, weaving, tea making, as well as the unique features of exotic merchants, camels and horses and major cities along the Silk Road...... It perfectly presents the Silk Road style from Chang'an to Rome in the past. This is not only the length of history, but also the thickness of culture and the strength of creation, which shocks the industry.

"Wood carving is not simply a sculpture of a piece of wood, but an expression of the sculptor's cultural consciousness and concept. With the increasing sophistication of the "splitting technique", Yu Chunzhou now prefers to create works with historical and cultural themes, whether it is "Four Masterpieces" and "Bole Xiangma" and other traditional cultural works, or "Long March" and "Ten Marshals" and other red-themed works, he is constantly figuring out and carving the balance between art and business, as well as inheritance and innovation in the grand narrative background.

After nearly 30 years of industry tempering, Yu Chunzhou's "Tianlun" and "Stealing Joy" and other dozens of works won the China Arts and Crafts Master Works Expo, China Arts and Crafts Hundred Flowers Award and other gold medals, "Gentleman Rulan", "Serving" and other more than ten works into the collection of the National Art Museum of China, China Arts and Crafts Museum and other institutions. He has also won the titles of Fujian Arts and Crafts Master, Fujian Provincial Skill Master, etc., and concurrently serves as the vice president of the Wood and Bamboo Carving Art Committee of the Fujian Arts and Crafts Society, and the secretary of the Party branch, vice president and secretary general of the Fuzhou Wood Carving Industry Association.
