Baldur's Gate 3 has won more awards than any other game

Baldur's Gate 3 is the first game in history to win five major Game of the Year awards: BAFTA, DICE, Game Developers Choice Award, Golden Joystick Award, and Game Award. This historic achievement further highlights the great success of Baldur's Gate 3.

The game began an impressive craze almost immediately after its release in August 2023, earning the ultimate accolade at the Golden Joystick Awards in November. The following month, Baldur's Gate 3 swept the Game Awards, earning six of the eight nominations.

This incredible journey has now culminated, with Baldur's Gate 3 winning five BAFTA awards on April 11, including Game of the Year. In the process, it completed the historic GOTY major awards quintet, which no other game has won to date.

The last time this happened was a year ago, when Elden Ring managed to win its first four GOTY awards, but lost to Vampire Survivors at the BAFTA Awards. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild had a similar performance six years ago, winning the same four GOTY Awards, but ultimately ceding the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) biggest accolade to The Legacy of Edith Finch. Between those two attempts, God of War won every award except the GOTY Award for the Golden Joystick, which went to Fortnite.

Since The Game Awards were established in 2014, only three other games have received more than two major GOTY accolades; In 2020, ARPG Hades won the BAFTA, DICE, and GDC GOTY Awards, but lost the other two to The Last of Us Part II. Five years ago, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt won GDC, GJA, and TGA awards, but lost two other accolades to Fallout 4. Blizzard's 2016 multiplayer shooter Overwatch also won three GOTY awards, but lost to Dark Souls 3 and Uncharted 4 at GJA and BAFTA, respectively.
