Chen Chunmei, Doctor of Law, is currently the Deputy Director of the Supervision Bureau of the Supreme People's Court.
Chen Yonggui (1914-March 26, 1986) was a native of Xiyang, Shanxi. He joined the Communist Party of China in 1948. He was the Vice Premier of the State Council.
There is no one in my generation who is not familiar with Chen Yonggui, I also heard the recording of Chen Yonggui's report when I was very young, and the Shanxi accent is very strong, and the adults say that his level is very high.
Chairman Mao admired Chen Yonggui, and according to the memories of Tao Lujin, secretary of the Shanxi Provincial Party Committee, he reported to Chairman Mao several key aspects of Chen Yonggui's leadership of the Dazhai Brigade to create miracles. Chen Yonggui insisted on participating in collective production and labor, led the masses to work hard and in a down-to-earth manner, and was deeply loved by the masses. The Dazhai Party branch has such a slogan: "Participate in production, lead production." Chairman Mao praised him and said: "Very good! Like a war, you can't talk about it on paper; if you don't take part in the war, how can you command the war?"
Chairman Mao praised Chen Yonggui's leadership ability and praised him for organically combining the spirit of "self-reliance" with a scientific attitude in production.
Tao Lujin said: "In early August 1963, when Dazhai was hit by a catastrophic flood, Chen Yonggui was attending the people's congress in the county. When he found out, he immediately took a detour back to the village, mobilized the whole village, regardless of men, women, and children, to work together, day and night, fighting the heavens and the earth, and really created an amazing miracle. Except for a small number of terraced fields that were completely washed away, the grain yield per mu has achieved a high yield record of more than 700 catties. Next, they studied the law of flood damage, revised the second ten-year land reclamation plan, and built new terraced fields with greater resistance to drought and flooding. With the amazing perseverance of controlling the slope during the day and the nest at night, they built a new Dazhai with a new look, and in just over half a year, half of the members moved into the new house happily. ”
Chairman Mao said: "In industry, we must import some cutting-edge technology from foreign countries. As for agriculture, we have to rely on Chenjiazhuang (a typical example of agricultural production collectives in Qufu, Shandong) and Dazhai. "Chairman Mao's Chenjiazhuang is a collective model of agricultural production in Qufu, Shandong Province, and has now been submerged in the dust and fog of history, and Dazhai and the spirit of Dazhai are still an important part of the spiritual pedigree of the Communist Party of China.
Regarding the typical example of Dazhai, Chairman Mao said a very profound sentence: "If cadres do not participate in labor, they will never be clear, and laziness, gluttony, possession, and greed all come from laziness." ”
Since then, Chairman Mao has mentioned the spirit of Dazhai many times.

December 26, 1964 President's 71st birthday. He invited Chen Yonggui, Qian Xuesen, a well-known scientist, Xing Yanzi and Dong Jiageng, leaders of young intellectuals who went to the mountains and countryside, Wang Jinxi, an "iron man" in Daqing, and several leading cadres of the central and local governments to attend his birthday banquet.
In 2008, the Writers Publishing House published "My Grandfather Chen Yonggui: From Farmer to Vice Premier of the State Council" written by Chen Yonggui's granddaughter Chen Chunmei. The book wrote about Chen Yonggui's participation in Chairman Mao's birthday banquet: Chairman Mao held his hand tightly and said that Yonggui was good. After the banquet began, Mao Zedong raised his glass and said humorously: Today is not a birthday celebration, but I will use my manuscript money to invite everyone to a meal. There are workers, peasants, scientists, and the People's Liberation Army, not only to eat, but also to talk!
During the banquet, seeing that his grandfather rarely moved his chopsticks, the chairman said enthusiastically: Yonggui, eat vegetables, eat vegetables......! Comrade Yonggui, you're welcome!
Knowing that his grandfather was 50 years old, the chairman humorously said: "Fifty knows the destiny of heaven!" It is very good to build a big village. Chen Chunmei also wrote in the book that on the night of Labor Day in 1967, Chairman Mao took Chen Yonggui's hand from the Tiananmen Gate Tower and said: "Yonggui is good!
On April 11, 1967, Chairman Mao met with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Van Dong in the Great Hall of the People, and when talking about the Dazhai experience, Chairman Mao said: I have met Chen Yonggui, he is an honest man. ("Mao Zedong Annals, 1949~1976")
In December 1964, Premier Zhou Enlai summarized the spirit of Dazhai as follows in the "Government Work Report" made at the first session of the Third National People's Congress:
the principle of political leadership and ideological leadership;
the spirit of self-reliance and hard work;
The communist style of loving the country and the collective.
