A precise legacy of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Wings Chronograph Moon Phase in platinum

author:The home of watches

[House of Watches & Watches Geneva 2024 "Watches & Wonders"] The relentless pursuit of precision is one of the greatest driving forces for the continuous progress of the watchmaking industry. As early as 2007, Jaeger-LeCoultre unveiled the groundbreaking two-wing mechanism, which uses two separate barrels and gear trains to drive the escapement and complications. At this year's Watches & Wonders Haute Horlogerie, the Maison combines it with chronographs and moon phases with the launch of the new Wings Chronograph Moon Phase in platinum (Ref. Q622656J).

The new watch has a diameter of 42.5 mm and a thickness of 14.2 mm. The case is made of 950 platinum and is made up of 34 individual parts, making it complex and comfortable to wear. Unlike regular models, the lugs are screwed in place, rather than integrated into the case. The crown has a deep round groove for easy grip adjustment.

Polished, frosted and microblasted finishes alternate to create a mesmerizing light and shadow effect that changes at different angles. Equipped with a sapphire crystal and a see-through case back, this timepiece is water-resistant to 50 meters. The silhouette is rounded and the shape is elegant.

The main dial and the centre of each subdial are finished with a powdery and delicate copper-colored opal, which contrasts with the concentric circular texture that surrounds the subdials. The subdials are slightly recessed below the main dial, and the intricate mechanism of the built-in movement is further enhanced by the openwork aperture in the lower part of the main dial.

The main dial features a unique three-subdial layout, with 12-hour and 30-minute counters and a moon phase display at 3 o'clock, and a symmetrical and balanced day and night display at 9 o'clock. A jumping seconds hand at 6 o'clock with an accuracy of 1/6th of a second. On the camed bridges on either side, the blued seconds hand indicates the remaining power reserve. In addition, the outer edge of the dial is marked with a tachymeter scale.

By looking through the case back, you can admire the hand-wound calibre 391 inside. The movement has two separate barrels and gear trains – one to drive the timekeeping function and the other to power the chronograph function, ensuring that the isochronism of the movement is not affected by the operation of the chronograph function, and each barrel has a power reserve of 50 hours.
