How to prevent e-bike shed fires?
In November 2023, the National Fire and Rescue Administration researched and formulated the "Seven Measures to Prevent Fire Accidents in Electric Bicycle Sheds" (for trial implementation), proposing that electric bicycle sheds should strengthen fire safety management and fire prevention transformation in accordance with the following measures:

Seven measures to prevent fire accidents in electric bicycle sheds
(Trial)
The electric bicycle shed in this measure refers to the structure (building) set up in an outdoor open space to provide centralized parking and charging functions for electric bicycles. Electric bicycle sheds shall strengthen fire safety management and fire prevention renovation in accordance with the requirements of these measures, and their design and construction shall comply with the relevant requirements of current fire protection laws and regulations and fire protection technical standards.
1. Reasonable site selection and construction. The electric bicycle shed shall not be built adjacent to or combined with Class A and B fire hazard workshops, warehouses and cultural relics protection buildings, shall not occupy the fire spacing, fire lanes, and fire truck climbing operation sites of the building, and shall not affect the normal use of indoor and outdoor fire protection facilities and safety evacuation facilities of the building.
2. Keep a safe distance. The outer edge of the protruding site (including the weatherproof shelter) of the electric bicycle shed shall be kept at a certain safety distance from the external wall of the adjacent building, and the opening parts and safety exits of the external wall doors, windows, openings and other openings of the adjacent building shall not be maintained. If there is a real difficulty in building next to the building, a firewall that is non-flammable and has no doors, windows or holes within a certain range should be adjacent, or reliable fire separation measures should be taken to reduce the risk of fire spreading to the building.
3. Vehicle group management. The parking spaces in the electric bicycle shed should be arranged in groups, and the length or number of parking spaces in each group should be determined according to the actual situation of the region, and the management of marking and separation should be implemented. A certain fire spacing should be set between the groups, or a low wall should be built and a partition with a fire resistance limit of not less than 1.00h should be used for fire separation. The carport shall be built with non-combustible and flame-retardant materials, and shall not be built with materials with combustion performance lower than Class A such as polystyrene and polyurethane foam as insulation and insulation materials or as core materials of sandwich color steel plates.
4. Strict electrical safety. The electric bicycle shed should be equipped with intelligent charging facilities with functions such as timed charging, automatic power cut-off, fault alarm, etc. Charging facilities, sockets, distribution boxes, cables, etc. are strictly prohibited from laying on flammable and combustible materials, and it is strictly forbidden to use high-power lighting fixtures, and it is strictly forbidden to privately connect wires to "fly wire charging".
5. Improve fire-fighting facilities. According to environmental conditions, floor area and other factors and actual needs, electric bicycle sheds can be equipped with automatic fire alarms, outdoor fire hydrants and other facilities according to local conditions, and equipped with fire extinguishers, fire blankets and rapid moving devices and other equipment. Establish a volunteer fire fighting organization for rapid disposal of electric bicycle fires, improve emergency response plans, standardize disposal procedures, and strengthen daily drills, so that once a fire occurs, it can be extinguished early, small, and early.
6. Strengthen monitoring and early warning. Electric bicycle sheds with a certain scale should be installed with automatic identification, early warning function of 24-hour video surveillance system, the image can be displayed and stored in real time in the fire control room, duty room. Encourage the installation of electrical fire monitoring systems to achieve automatic monitoring and early warning of electrical fires.
Seventh, strengthen daily management. The construction, management or owner unit of the electric bicycle shed shall organize and carry out fire prevention inspections and night inspections every day, and carry out inspections of the charging facilities, fire protection facilities and other facilities and equipment of the carport once a month, and promptly notify professionals to repair and maintain. Discourage electric bicycles from occupying fire escapes, safety exits, private wire charging, and long-term overcharging, and clean up "zombie" vehicles that have not been used for a long time. Use community billboards, building TVs, outdoor large screens and other carriers to carry out warning publicity and fire safety science education on electric bicycle fire cases on a regular basis.
In addition, the fire department tips: when buying electric bicycles, be sure to choose qualified products and accessories produced by regular manufacturers, do not modify electric bicycles or replace large-capacity batteries without authorization, it is strictly forbidden to park electric bicycles or charge in the public foyer, evacuation walkway, stairwell, and safety exit of the building, and it is strictly forbidden to "fly wire charging", and do not take the battery home to charge.
