Foreign media said that PS lacks first-party blockbuster works and does need a new press conference

Foreign media gamingbolt issued an article saying that PlayStation needs a new press conference.

Gamingbolt noted that so far this year has seen two games released by PlayStation Studios, Helldiver 2 and Rise of the Ronin, with the former being a huge success on all fronts. In the future, Star Blade is on the horizon, and Sony has a remake of Until Dawn and Concord in development.

There doesn't seem to be a shortage of PS5 exclusives in 2024, but gamingbolt points out that the current PS5 is sorely lacking in games from Sony's first-party studios. The company is known for its AAA rating of cinematic narrative-driven single-player experiences, from God of War to Horizon, from Ghost of Tsushima to The Last of Us. But there aren't any such games planned for release so far this year. Sony has confirmed that it does not plan to release any new games from the existing flagship-level IP series until at least April 2025.

Gamingbolt believes that with all of this in mind, there is more unease about the future than ever in the PlayStation player base. And with recent rumours that Sony will be hosting a PlayStation-related event in May – most likely a PlayStation Showcase – if that happens, Gamingbolt thinks Sony needs to make sure it's a showcase that players remember.

Gamingbolt once again stressed that in any other year it may not cause any concern if Sony held a PlayStation Showcase that did well but was not too special, but in 2024 the external image of this situation could be detrimental for the company.

Of course, the main question is, what can we expect at the launch? Journalist Jeff Grubb has repeatedly claimed that a new Cosmic Robot game will be announced this year, making it a candidate for the PlayStation Showcase, but again, this is not the blockbuster title that players are expecting.
