On April 12, the second "Thousand Materia Medica Genome Project" seminar was held in Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Chen Xiaoya, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhu Jianxian, academician of the National Academy of Sciences, Chen Shilin, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and chief professor of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and experts and scholars from the field of traditional Chinese medicine gathered together to discuss the inheritance, innovation and development of traditional Chinese medicine, and jointly witness the release of the world's first large model of the whole industrial chain of traditional Chinese medicine - Materia Medica, Chinese Medicine Think Tank (hereinafter referred to as Materia Medica).

The Materia Medica Think Tank is jointly developed by Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Beijing Baidu Netcom Technology Co., Ltd., Sinopharm Taiji Group and Tianfu Traditional Chinese Medicine City.

Among them, Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine Tianfu Traditional Chinese Medicine Innovation Port (hereinafter referred to as "Innovation Port") is a new type of R&D institution jointly built by Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Pengzhou City, relying on the "double first-class" discipline advantages of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the advantages of medical and health discipline clusters and the advantages of Pengzhou traditional Chinese medicine industry, and is committed to building a first-class modern Chinese medicine industry technology innovation center in China.
The project is located in the core area of Tianfu Traditional Chinese Medicine City, Pengzhou City, with a total investment of 5 billion yuan, covering an area of 175 acres, and can accommodate more than 3,000 students. Among them, the first phase of the project covers an area of 98 acres, with a construction area of about 270,000 square meters, which has officially started in March 2023 and is expected to be put into use in 2025.
The Innovation Port adopts the model of "government building, school operation, and professional operation", gathers platforms, technologies, talents, industries, and capital, and strives to build a source of technology upgrading in the traditional Chinese medicine industry, a gathering place for the research and development of innovative drugs in traditional Chinese medicine, a place for the future proof of concept of innovative Chinese medicine, and a new highland for the cultivation of talents in traditional Chinese medicine engineering; R&D institutions such as the Institute of Frontier Technology, teaching institutions such as industrial colleges and graduate schools, public service institutions for new drug development such as Dayi sharing platform and pilot test center, and transformation institutions such as achievement incubation platforms and scientific and technological innovation service platforms will be built into dynamic school districts, science and technology parks and characteristic blocks suitable for living, working, traveling and learning. Establish a school-enterprise joint laboratory to help enterprises leap forward in R&D capabilities; innovate personnel systems such as school-enterprise staffing, school-enterprise dual employment, and industrial professors, implement talent training models such as order training, equivalent education, and skill training, and solve the problem of attracting and retaining enterprise talents; create an industrial fund pool, and build a new school-enterprise cooperation mechanism of "enterprise problem-government-university problem-solving".

It is understood that the Materia Medica Think Tank has included 15 million genetic information of the original species of Chinese herbal medicines, more than 3,000 pieces of interaction information between Chinese medicine ingredients and targets, and more than 400,000 compounds and other core data of traditional Chinese medicine research, so that Chinese herbal medicines have an exclusive "genetic ID card".
The Materia Medica Think Tank has three major functions: the extraction and generation of traditional Chinese medicine knowledge, the output of solutions in the vertical field of traditional Chinese medicine, and the one-stop digital service of the traditional Chinese medicine industry. Drug research and development and other key links of the whole industry chain of traditional Chinese medicine are of great significance, which will help improve the overall efficiency and quality level of basic research and industry of traditional Chinese medicine, and provide accurate decision-making support for the key links of the whole industrial chain of traditional Chinese medicine, so as to optimize the production process, improve product quality, and ensure drug safety.
