With the conclusion of the Table Tennis Olympic Mixed Doubles Mixed Doubles Qualification Tournament held in Havelov, Czech Republic, four mixed doubles pairs finally qualified for the Paris Olympics. Through the two-day qualifying rounds on the 11th and 12th, the final pair from Sweden Carlsen/Carlberg, Hong Kong's Wong Chun-ting/To Hoi King, Spain's Robles/Xiao Yaoqian, and North Korea won the mixed doubles ticket to the Paris Olympics.
On the second day of qualifying, top seeds Álvaro Robles and Maria Shaw bounced back visibly from the setbacks of the first day. They showed their strength with a 4-2 win over Moldova's Vladislav Ursu and Alexandra Chiriakova and then a 4-1 win over Poland's Samuel Kurczyki and Zuzana Vilgos. They claimed victory in seven thrilling matches against Romania's Ovidiou Ionescu and Bernadette Schautz to secure their coveted qualification for Paris 2024.
They joined Hong Kong's Wong Chun Ting/To Hoi Kim and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's Lee Jong Sik and Kim Jong Young in their respective knockout rounds to qualify for Paris 2024.
So far, all 16 pairs of mixed doubles players at the Paris Olympics have been produced: Wang Chuqin/Sun Yingsha, Lin Zhongxun/Shin Yubin, Tomokazu Zhangmoto/Hina Hayata, Lin Yunru/Chen Siyu, Lebrun/Yuan Jianan, Calek/Zhang An, Pitchford/Walsh, Thales/Ansonlet, and the players who enter the top 8 of the mixed doubles at the 2023 World Table Tennis Championships in Durban will automatically qualify.
