Milan police recently smashed a driving test cheating gang led by a Chinese woman. The gang is suspected of helping at least 30 test takers cheat on their driver's license tests and make illegal profits.
According to reports from Italy's "La Repubblica" and "Diario", the case dates back to October 2020. At that time, the staff of the Milan Vehicle Management Office noticed that a large number of Chinese candidates came to register for the driver's license test, and even many candidates from other provinces.
However, it is often not the candidate himself who makes the exam appointment, but entrusts others to do it on his behalf. And the medical examination report submitted by all was stamped and signed by a lieutenant colonel of the Air Force.
The DMV staff contacted the lieutenant colonel and learned that he had never issued these certificates. The staff then reported the situation to the police.
In February 2021, a Chinese woman came to the DMV to make an appointment for a 20-year-old Chinese man. The staff noticed that the candidate's medical examination report she submitted was still issued by the lieutenant colonel of the Air Force.
The Milan police learned of the situation and launched an investigation into the Chinese woman.
The woman runs a clothing store in Milan's Chinatown area. The police overheard that the woman had promised the candidates -
"I'll take care of everything with one of the cops inside and get you to pass the exam in one day. ”
"All you have to do is prepare 6,000 euros, 2,000 euros in advance, 3,000 euros after the theory test, and another 1,000 euros at the end. ”
"You don't have to bargain with me, it's better to pay all in RMB. ”
"After signing up with me, you can go buy a car, no mistake. ”
Candidates who have paid the money will bring electronic devices such as miniature cameras and headphones into the examination room. The security guards at the DMV took bribes and turned a blind eye to cheating. A driving school employee and a municipal police officer are responsible for passing on the answers to the candidates.
After investigation, at least 30 candidates passed the test and successfully obtained their driver's licenses through the "services" provided by the gang.
After grasping the clues, the Milan police launched a raid on the people involved on the 9th, seizing about 160,000 euros in cash, valuables such as watches, and cheating equipment.
The police have brought five members into custody of a gang suspected of organizing exam cheating. Candidates who participate in cheating will also face legal sanctions if they are verified.
