On the track of science and technology, Huawei, the "backbone of the nation", has always been a leader, constantly refreshing the imagination of the Chinese people for the future.

Recently, at Huawei's Hongmeng Ecosystem Spring Communication Conference, Yu Chengdong once again showed the world Huawei's latest achievements in the field of intelligent driving - the new upgraded version of Zhijie S7 and the visual intelligent driving technology that amazed the audience. In this regard, netizens couldn't help but ridicule: Huawei provides smart driving, and Xiaomi provides a bracket.

First of all, let's talk about the Zhijie S7. This car is not only the crystallization of the cooperation between Huawei and Chery, but also the first sedan in the Hongmeng Zhixing mode. Its debut will be in November 2023, and this "refurnace" upgrade is undoubtedly a reflection of Huawei's excellence in products. Huawei chose to release the Zhijie S7 again after half a year, and this time the focus is on Huawei's visual intelligent driving technology for the first time, which is a visual solution that does not rely on lidar, showing Huawei's deep strength and forward-looking thinking in the field of intelligent driving.

In the eyes of the outside world, Huawei's visual intelligent driving technology is undoubtedly the highlight of this conference. Yu Chengdong said at the meeting that the Huawei visual intelligent driving carried by the Zhijie S7 has surpassed Tesla, the "visual originator" in the field of autonomous driving, in the performance of the real car test. This declaration is not only a confidence in Huawei's technology, but also a challenge and encouragement to the entire industry.

Huawei ADS Basic Edition, a new visual intelligent driving system, is equipped with 3 millimeter-wave radars, 10 high-definition camera groups, and 12 ultrasonic radars, realizing all-round perception of the environment without relying on lidar. Whether it is intelligent driving on and off ramps, or facing complex scenarios such as road construction and cone and barrel diversion, Huawei ADS Basic Edition can easily cope with it, demonstrating its powerful ability to change lanes and avoid obstacles.

In the comparative test with Tesla's EAP, Huawei's visual intelligent driving coverage rate reached an astonishing 99.5%, the ramp pass rate was as high as 96%, and there were 0 downgrades. In comparison, Tesla equipped with EAP has a coverage rate of only 79%, a ramp pass rate of 68.75%, and 14 downgrades. This comparison undoubtedly proves the superiority of Huawei's visual intelligent driving technology.

In terms of intelligent parking, Huawei's visual intelligent driving has also shown strong strength, surpassing Tesla in all aspects. Tesla's EAP is powerless in the face of unusual shapes, oblique columns, and custom parking spaces, while Huawei's visual intelligent driving can easily deal with it.

Tesla's autonomous driving products are divided into three categories: BAP, EAP and FSD, of which EAP is an enhanced assisted driving option, which requires an additional cost. The Huawei Zhijie S7 offers five models, with prices ranging from 249,800 yuan to 349,800 yuan. The new Zhijie S7 also comes with a new Ultra version with a 100kWh battery pack, while the Max and Max+ versions have been reduced in price.

It is worth noting that the basic version of HUAWEI ADS is only available in the Zhijie S7 Pro rear-wheel drive long-range version. The more advanced Zhijie S7 Max rear-drive long-range intelligent driving version and above are equipped with the industry's strongest 192-line lidar, with a maximum detection distance of 250m, which is undoubtedly a qualitative leap in the safety performance of intelligent driving.

The question is, what does "abandoning" LiDAR mean for Huawei's intelligent driving? Obviously, the Zhijie S7 equipped with LiDAR has been significantly strengthened in terms of omnidirectional anti-collision capabilities. For example, the AEB effective range of the forward active safety of the Zhijie S7 has been increased from 4-120km/h to 4-150km/h, and the maximum braking speed has also been increased from 90km/h to 120km/h. Such a performance improvement undoubtedly provides a more solid guarantee for driving safety.

The owner of the M7 has already given the answer: when driving at high speed, he suddenly encountered a pedestrian "ghost probe", but fortunately, the Huawei intelligent driving system equipped with it recognized and took avoidance measures in time to avoid a potential tragedy. This incident once again proves the importance of lidar in intelligent driving safety.

At the same time, we have also seen another attempt by domestic automakers in the field of intelligent driving - the iCAR 03 jointly launched by DJI Automotive and Chery. This model adopts a 7V pure vision sensor scheme, and the whole car does not have a millimeter-wave radar or ultrasonic radar, and it is the first car in China to rely on pure visual perception hardware to achieve high-end assisted driving functions.

In reality, domestic giants, including DJI and Huawei, have long been eager to bring intelligent driving into a lower price range. In this regard, many people in the industry sighed, "LiDAR is finished".

The visual intelligent driving solution that does not rely on lidar is undoubtedly the most promising technology among them. For Musk and Tesla, the real challenge may have just begun, what do you think about this?
