According to a number of Thai media sources, on April 12, Thailand's Deputy Minister of the Interior held a meeting with the head of the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department and relevant departments, hoping to prevent and reduce road traffic accidents during the Songkran Festival in 2024 under the guidance of "safe driving, no accidents in Thailand", and April 11-17 is the "Songkran Dangerous 7 Days".

The meeting announced that traffic accident statistics show that since April 11, a total of 234 accidents have occurred, with 248 injured and 25 fatal. Compared to the data of the last 3 years, the number of accidents decreased by 19.03%, the number of fatalities decreased by 21.88%, and the number of injuries decreased by 14.48%.

At the same time, the data shows that the provinces with the highest number of accidents were Songkhla with 11, Krabi and Ayutthaya with 10 each, Trang with 9 each, Bangkok with 3 fatalities, Phitsanulok, Loi Etat and Ubon Ratchathani with 2 each, and Songkhla with 13, Tao Kong with 12 and Krabi with 11 injuries.

In addition, the data shows that among the causes of accidents, there are 103 cases of driving beyond the legal speed, 49 cases of driving in close distance, and 39 cases of drunk driving, and among the causes of death, 67.77% of the reasons for death are not wearing helmets, 15.75% of driving is speeding, and 10.99% of driving is drunk, of which 86.07% are motorcycles, 5.74% are pickup trucks, and 3.69% are cars.
