Baofeng Mountain stone carvings and stone workshops, built in the Ming Dynasty, continued to be built by later generations, after hundreds of years of vicissitudes of wind and rain, still maintain its unique charm. It is composed of three parts: Baofeng Wonderland Stone Workshop, Baofeng Mountain Cliff Stone Carving, and Rebuilding Baofeng Mountain Buddha Hall Monument, each of which carries profound historical and cultural connotations.
Baofeng Wonderland Stone Fang, built in the 43rd year of Kangxi in the Qing Dynasty (1704), is a stone archway with one door and two pillars. The column is 4.5 meters high, the distance between the two columns is 2 meters, the top of the column is carved with a squatting lion, and the lower part is decorated with a cloud plate, and the shape is Huabiao. The structure of the stone workshop is simple and elegant, the carvings are exquisite, and every detail reflects the ingenuity of the ancient craftsmen. Set up a pair of squatting lions in front of the column, put the drum stone behind, the archway is the tile pattern top, the lower is the cloud pattern horizontal square, the front and back are engraved with the "Baofeng Wonderland" and "Jiebu Tianjie" two inscriptions, let people feel as if they are in a mysterious and beautiful fairyland.
The cliff carvings of Baofeng Mountain are even more amazing. There are a total of 12 stone carvings of all sizes, with a total area of 536 square meters, and each stone carving records the traces of history and the accumulation of culture. Among them, the earliest is the inscription of Wu Xinchen, the general stationed in Teng during the Chongzhen period of the Ming Dynasty, "laying high mountains and rivers" five regular characters, the handwriting is vigorous and powerful, and the meaning is far-reaching. In addition, there are inscriptions of Tengchong celebrities such as Li Gengen and Zhang Wenguang, which are not only witnesses of history, but also cultural inheritance.
The rebuilding of the Buddha Hall Monument of Baofeng Mountain provides us with important information to understand the development of Buddhism in Tengchong and the history of the construction of Baofeng Temple. This stele stands in front of the Great Buddha Hall, and was written by the famous scholar Hu Xuan in the seventh year of Yongli in the Ming Dynasty (the tenth year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty, 1653). The inscription describes in detail the reasons for the rebuilding of the Big Buddha Hall of Baofeng Mountain and the situation of the four mountain products in the temple, revealing the historical origin and development of Baofeng Temple for us.
