What does it feel like to shoot an F1.4 lens that costs less than 300 yuan?
Design
This lens is quite lightweight, 249g, all-metal body, after all, this is an APS-C format lens, and the aperture with F1.4 is not large. It also supports a wide range of mounts, including E-mount, Z-mount, EOS-M mount, RF mount, M43, L-mount, and X-mount.
When paired with the fuselage, it can also adapt well to the retro fuselage, which is really good.
A large enough aperture can bring excellent light intake, and of course, good looks.
The aperture blades are 10 pieces, which can basically ensure that the bokeh of a smaller aperture is not bad. The damping feel of the aperture ring and focus ring is excellent.
Real-life experience
We did some outdoor shooting with the Nikon Z fc, and the overall experience was still very good. The physical focal length of 50mm is equivalent to about 75mm on APS-C, which is basically a more comfortable focal length for portraits. It can be seen that the atmosphere of shooting portraits with full f/1.4 is still very good.
When shooting a large part of the body from a distance, the bokeh will appear a little cluttered, but it doesn't affect the image quality, which is still very good.
Shooting with the sun in the backlight, and slightly closing the aperture can also bring good image quality performance and better glare control.
To take a closer look at the image quality, with the aperture wide open, the center of the frame is not too good, but the corners are not too good for relatively high-frequency details, and we think that in this case, we can shoot with the aperture closed, or place the subject in the center of the frame.
There may also be a slight problem with manual lenses, which is that they need to be a little more precise in focusing. Especially at F1.4, the depth of field is shallow, so you need to be patient with focusing. However, occasionally not fully in focus, in fact, it can also bring a good sensory experience, such as this photo can bring a more interesting sense of atmosphere.
However, in close-up shooting, it is actually relatively easy to focus on the focus, so doesn't it feel good to shoot fresh meat at ultra-close range?
And in a photo like this, it's not a problem at all to lose focus a bit
However, I can also tell you here that if you use this lens for street shooting, you can use methods such as trap focusing, and you can improve the image quality by narrowing the aperture slightly, and at the focal length such as F5.6, the content at a distance of 5 meters can be basically solid.
Review
Overall, at this price point, giving a decent 50mm F1.4 large-aperture lens is already a win in terms of specs.
And compared with those F1 or F0.95 toys, there is a usable picture quality, and with a more suitable appearance, it is a very interesting dessert lens~ Compared with an old lens adapter with unstable color, I would still recommend ordinary consumers to buy such a lens, after all, this price may not be enough for everyone to eat a hot pot.
