Located in the east of Oman, Sur has been an important maritime trade center in the region since the 6th century. With the flourishing of maritime trade, the shipbuilding industry in this small seaside city flourished, and Sur became an important artisanal shipbuilding base for the region and the entire Arab region. Today, as a testament to maritime history and culture, traditional artisanal shipbuilding techniques are still preserved and passed on.
