NVIDIA Holoscan for Media will profoundly transform live media by simplifying AI integration

Whether it's delivering live sports, streaming services, webcasts, or social content, media companies face a challenging landscape.

Increasingly, audiences are gravitating towards interactive and personalized content, virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) technologies are becoming more mainstream, new video compression standards are challenging traditional computing infrastructures, and AI is having an impact on all fronts.

In a volatile environment, media companies can benefit from AI-enabled media solutions that have the flexibility to meet their evolving development and delivery needs.

NVIDIA Holoscan for Media, a software-defined platform that makes it easy for developers to build live media applications, power them with AI, and deploy them across media platforms.

A new approach to media app development

Holoscan for Media offers a new approach to live media development. It simplifies the application development process by providing a cloud-native architecture based on Internet Protocol (IP) that is not tied to dedicated hardware, environment, or location. The platform also integrates open source and other widely used technologies to simplify the process of delivering applications to customers while optimizing costs.

Traditional application development in the live media market relies on dedicated hardware. Due to the binding of software to hardware, developers are limited when it comes to innovating or upgrading their applications.

Whether on-premise or in the cloud, each deployment has its own construct, which makes development costly and inefficient. In addition to designing the app's user interface and core functionality, developers must also build additional infrastructure services, which further consumes R&D budgets.

Due to the complexity of building an AI software stack, AI integration has become the most significant challenge, preventing many pilot projects from bringing applications to market.

Holoscan for Media's underlying architecture deploys software-defined video on the same software stack as AI applications, including generative AI tools, making it easier to integrate AI into application development for the benefit of vendors and R&D departments who want to integrate AI applications into live video.

Because Holoscan for Media is a cloud-native platform, the architecture operates regardless of location, whether in the cloud, on-premises, or at the edge. Other than that, it is not dependent on any specific device, field-programmable gate array (FPGA), or device.

The Holoscan for Media architecture includes services such as authentication, logging, and security, as well as features to help broadcasters migrate to IP-based technologies, such as the SMPTE ST 2110 transport protocol, the precision time protocol for timing and synchronization, and the NMOS controller and registry for dynamic device management.
