According to Japanese media NHK, a 36-year-old suspect in Kyoto Prefecture was arrested by the police on suspicion of violating the "Unfair Competition Prevention Act" for tampering with the game data of the NS game "Pokémon Vermilion" and selling rare Pokémon.
According to the police, the suspect Shohiro Yamakawa used a special tool to modify the Pokémon abilities in Pokémon Vermilion between December of the previous year and March last year and sold them for about 13,000 yen. In addition, he posted information such as "Only now!6 Pokémon are priced at 4,000 yen" on websites that buy and sell game items and characters, and at the request of customers, he sells rare Pokémon of different colors or difficult to cultivate. The police's cyber patrol found him selling the items and arrested him on the 9th.
The suspect confessed to the police investigation and said he was "just trying to make a living." Since the amount involved has reached millions of yen so far, the police are currently conducting a more detailed investigation into the case.
