The ancient temple of Taishan Temple in Xiyang Village, Jianhu, Jiangsu, was founded in the Tang Dynasty and developed in the Ming and Qing dynasties, and has a prominent history. It is located in Jianhu County, Jianyang Town, Xinyang Village, Jialiang River West, so people are accustomed to call it Xiyang Village. There is a small island with an area of about fifty acres. There is a Taishan temple built on the island, because it is close to the ancient Xinyangpu (river), after the temple is built, it is named after the temple, and it is called Taishan Temple in Xinyang Village. It is also called Taishan Temple, also known as Dongyue Temple, it is the temple of Taoism to worship Dongyue Emperor, and was later inhabited by monks, changed to Buddhist jungle, called "Taishan Zen Temple" or "Taishan Ancient Temple". Taishan Temple is also known as Dongyue Temple. According to the Ming Wanli's "Yancheng County Chronicles": there are five Dongyue temples in ancient salt, (1) outside the West Gate, (2) Wuyouchang, (3) Shanggang Town, (4) Beilonggang, (5) Xinyang Village.

Since the Ming Dynasty Wanli between the grain river, after the dredging of the port ditch, there are five rivers around the fan-shaped convergence, into the "five dragons holding the pearl" feng shui treasure land, pilgrims from all directions, one after another, incense is flourishing. The whole temple originally covers an area of more than 50 acres, the building is magnificent, divided into three major parts of the left, middle and right, more than 300 temples, more than 20 large and small patios, the number of diameters is different, many groups of palaces and pavilions, the layout is harmonious. The temple enshrines nearly 1,000 idols of heaven and earth gods such as Taoist gods and emperors, Buddhist bodhisattvas, Arhats, etc., all of them are lifelike, ready to come out, and have a very high level of carving.
In addition to worshipping Emperor Wenchang, Wenchang Palace also worships the Confucian patriarch Confucius and the Four Sages and Ten Philosophers. The temple is dedicated to the idols of the three religions, and this phenomenon of "mixing the three religions" of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism is rare in ordinary temples. The "Continuation of Yancheng County Chronicles", which was written before the Anti-Japanese War, said: "The prosperity of incense in the county temple is the most important in Xiyang Village." There is an endless stream of good men and women who usually come here to burn incense and worship the Buddha.
During the incense period from the third day of the third lunar month to the eighth day of the fourth lunar month every year, tens of thousands of pilgrims are received every day.
According to ancient legends, when the people of the Yang and Huai regions are dying, they have to go to the Yama Hall in Xiyang Village to pass the hall before they can enter the underworld.
Due to the influence of this kind of mythology, the Buddhist believers in Gaoyou, Baoying, Xinghua and Taizhou come to worship the Buddha every year, resulting in the long-lasting prosperity of incense in Xiyang Village.
In addition, there are six lower courtyards in Xiyang Village, distributed in the north and south of the river, with a total of more than 300 monks. Its scale is large, the radiation is wide, Jiangbei is the only one, so it is known as "the first temple in Jiangbei".
Taishan Temple in Xiyang Village is known as: "not a famous mountain of famous mountains", according to legend, Taishan Temple in Xiyang Village and Jinshan Temple in Zhenjiang are sister temples, both of which were built by Ma Liang, a resident of Jiangbei.
The temple is the same sect as the four famous mountains in China, it is the largest dojo founded by the Rinzai sect in Jiangbei, and it has been authorized to release ordination many times, and its reputation spreads far and wide, so it is called "a famous mountain that is not a famous mountain".
