Jack Ma retired for the first time in five years!

Jack Ma posted on Alibaba's intranet on April 10, affirming Alibaba's changes in the past year, "In the past year, Tsai Chongxin and Wu Yongming have led Alibaba to carry out a series of changes with an eye to the future with admirable courage and wisdom. ”

Jack Ma said, "In the face of this era of great technological change, the time span of three or five years is like a century for the Internet field, which is enough to undergo earth-shaking changes. I believe that e-commerce in three years will certainly not be the hottest e-commerce today...... It's not about who to catch up with today, it's about how tomorrow's e-commerce should improve the consumer experience...... The era of AI has just arrived, and it's just the beginning, so it's time for us!"

It is reported that this is the first time in five years that Ma Yun has shared his thoughts on the company's reform and innovation and future prospects after retirement.

Jack Ma affirmed Ali's changes in the past year

On April 10, Ma Yun published a post entitled "To Reform and Innovation - Written on the First Anniversary of Alibaba's Reorganization" on Alibaba's intranet under the pseudonym "Feng Qingyang", talking about the company's change, the company's mission, innovative ideas, AI era and other topics.

Jack Ma highly affirmed the courage of the new management team composed of Tsai Chongxin and Wu Yongming, saying that Alibaba has returned to a healthy growth track and supports continued reform.

"The core change of this year is not to catch up with KPIs, but to recognize ourselves and return to the track of customer value. We're going to go from being a slow decision-making organization back to efficiency, market, and simplicity and agility again. Ma Yun said that the new management faces the problem and the future, believes in young people, fully empowers the young team, and makes decisive and clear trade-offs about what we want and what we don't want.

In September last year, Tsai Chongxin took over as chairman of Alibaba Group's board of directors, and Wu Yongming became the group's CEO. Wu Yongming issued a letter to all employees, announcing the establishment of two strategic priorities: user-first and AI-driven, and focusing on these two priorities to sort out the business, reshape the strategic priorities of the business, and carry out the reform of the management team to rejuvenate.

In November last year, at Alibaba's quarterly results call, Wu Yongming disclosed the new strategic plan to the outside world for the first time, and made Alibaba's important priorities for the next ten years clear into three directions: technology-driven Internet platform business, AI-driven technology business and global business network.

In December last year, Taotian Group achieved a young management team to take over the baton. Six young managers were appointed to lead the key businesses of Taotian Group and report directly to Wu Yongming, including many of them "post-85s".

Innovation isn't about being fashionable

Jack Ma mentioned in the post, "All along, from B2B to Taobao, to Alipay, to Alibaba Cloud, our innovation has never been to pursue higher profits, but to strive to survive in the era of rapid change; Innovation isn't about being fashionable, it's a test of your true ability to survive. It requires you to subvert your cognition from within, always challenge yourself, and keep doing what others dare not do, what others don't want to do, and what others haven't done......"

Jack Ma also touched on the hot topic of the AI era. He said: "In this era of great technological change, a time span of three to five years is like a century for the Internet field, which is enough to undergo earth-shaking changes. I believe that e-commerce in three years will certainly not be the hottest e-commerce today...... It's not about who to catch up with today, it's about how tomorrow's e-commerce should improve the consumer experience...... The era of AI has just arrived, and it's just the beginning, so it's time for us!"

In a recent interview with Norway's sovereign wealth fund, Tsai Chongxin mentioned reflections on Alibaba's mistakes.

"When we look inside and reflect on what has happened over the past few years, we find that we are falling behind because we have forgotten who our real customers are. Our customers are users who shop using our app and we don't give them the best experience. "I'm chairman, but I'm working with a CEO who is 12 years younger than me. He is very user-focused, focusing on the product, the interface, and the user experience, which is the most important thing for us. ”

"The first thing we did was admit mistakes and admit that in the past we may not have focused on the user experience. The second thing is to restructure our people and change the organizational structure that is in line with the strategy. I think this is a very common problem in large companies. Tsai Chongxin said.

Tsai said Alibaba sees AI as an important part of its cloud business, while e-commerce is a key area for AI applications. The company is developing a number of AI-driven products and services, such as smart shopping guides, image and text generation, etc.

To reform and innovation

——Written on the first anniversary of Ali's reorganization

Quite a few people have sent me videos of Joe being interviewed these days, and some people have told me that this video is a big confession of our past mistakes :) yes. Thanks to Joe's courage and responsibility, there are no mistakes that are not terrible, no one does not make mistakes, what is really terrible is not knowing mistakes, not admitting mistakes, and not correcting mistakes.

In the past 25 years, Ali people have achieved many successes, many innovations and leads, but in the past 25 years, we have also experienced countless mistakes, and we will continue to make mistakes in the next 77 years. Facing problems calmly is not to deny the past, but to responsibly find the way to the future. Don't complain about the past, don't complain about others, the times have changed, we must keep up with the times, not only have the courage to admit and correct yesterday's problems in time, but also face the future and reform, which is the reason why we continue to move forward.

Last year, I wrote on the intranet: Ali will change, Ali will change. Over the past year, Tsai Chongxin and Wu Yongming have used their admirable courage and wisdom to lead Ali through a series of changes with an eye to the future.

The core change of this year is not to catch up with KPIs, but to recognize yourself and return to the track of customer value. We're going to go from being a slow decision-making organization back to efficiency, market, and simplicity and agility again. The new management faces the problem and the future, believes in the young people, fully empowers the young team, and makes decisive and clear trade-offs about what we want and what we don't want. Our idealism and mission to "make it easy to do business in the world" will never change, but in the past year, the new management has made various changes, not only to break through yesterday's fixed strategy, but also to build the future of Alibaba.

For a long time, from B2B to Taobao, to Alipay, to Alibaba Cloud, our innovation has never been to pursue higher profits, but to strive to make ourselves able to survive in the era of rapid change; our innovation is not to change others, but to change ourselves; our innovation has never been to surpass our opponents, but to catch up with the future. Innovation isn't about being fashionable, it's a test of your true ability to survive. It requires you to subvert your cognition from within, always challenge yourself, and constantly do what others dare not do, others do not want to do, and others have not done......

In the face of this era of great technological change, the time span of three to five years is like a century for the Internet field, which is enough to undergo earth-shaking changes. I believe that e-commerce in three years will certainly not be the hottest e-commerce today...... It's not about who to catch up with today, it's about how tomorrow's e-commerce should improve the consumer experience...... The era of AI has just arrived, and it's just beginning, and it's time for us!

This year, in the midst of many doubts and various pressures inside and outside, I saw the birth of a strong and brave Ali team. When talking about reform and innovation, what we are most afraid of is turning reform and innovation into slogans. Reform and innovation are painful, because reform has to pay a price, and innovation has to be milled out step by step with oneself. The change and reorganization of the organization involves every employee, thank you to all Ali people for their dedication and responsibility this year, and thank you and your family for still choosing to believe and persist in the continuous change and even the decision change of IPO or not. I salute you, it is your persistence that has brought Ali back to the track of healthy growth.

The road of reform and innovation will never be accompanied by applause, because it is our favorite bad habits that we change, and it is the vested interests that we change...... The road is long, but walking together will not be alone. In the future, we need to be more active, more proactive and rapid to change ourselves, and we need greater reform in order to build a vibrant future Ali.

Come on, Alibaba!

The wind is blowing
