Aluminum-plastic film accompanied by pouch lithium batteries is widely used in consumer electronics, new energy vehicles, military, medical, power tools and other industries. Since 2020, the mainland has actively introduced a number of policies to stimulate consumption, the domestic demand market has grown steadily, and the demand for lithium battery market has increased rapidly. According to the data, China's lithium battery shipments will be 886GWh in 2023, a year-on-year increase of 35%. The downstream market of lithium batteries can be further subdivided into 3C digital, power and energy storage fields. 1) Smartphones

2) Tablets

As the current technical routes are still in the development stage, they can adapt to different application scenarios, there is no absolute superiority and disadvantage, in order to improve their market competitiveness, power battery manufacturers often carry out different types of power battery research and development, production and sales at the same time. At present, a number of mainstream electric vehicle companies in China have also begun to deploy soft-pack power battery models, including Dongfeng, BAIC New Energy, BYD, etc. The demand for pouch lithium batteries is on the rise, so the application of aluminum plastic film in the field of power batteries will be further deepened in the future.

(3) Technological innovation increases the application scenarios of pouch cells

According to the packaging method and shape of the battery, it can be divided into pouch battery, prismatic battery, cylindrical battery, etc., and according to the type of cathode material, it can be mainly divided into ternary material battery, lithium iron phosphate battery, etc. At present, the power battery industry at home and abroad is in the stage of coexistence of a variety of technical routes, and the mainstream application technologies mainly include ternary pouch batteries and lithium iron phosphate prismatic batteries. Since 2020, lithium iron phosphate batteries have been significantly improved in terms of energy density through the development of CTP and other technologies, and their lower cost has been superimposed, so the market share has gradually expanded, and many domestic hot-selling models use lithium iron phosphate batteries, such as BYD "Han" EV, BYD DM-i model, Tesla Model3/Y, Wuling miniEV, etc.

The pouch battery cell uses aluminum-plastic film as the packaging material, which is easy to be punctured in extreme situations, so it is necessary to add a metal protective layer to give more protection in the battery pack link, resulting in low group efficiency. In January 2021, BYD (002594. SZ) released the DM-i super hybrid special power blade battery, which applies aluminum plastic film to lithium iron phosphate batteries, and the technology specifically adopts the innovative structural design of "coil core soft aluminum packaging + blade duralumin shell", the winding method can improve the volume utilization rate, and the secondary sealing can improve safety. Based on this technological innovation, the good development momentum of lithium iron phosphate batteries will drive the sustained and rapid development of the aluminum-plastic film industry, and the continuous innovation of downstream lithium battery manufacturers at the technical level can increase the application scenarios of aluminum-plastic film while improving the energy density and comprehensive performance of the battery.

3. Energy storage

Energy storage is an important part of the mainland's strategic emerging industries, and in recent years, the acceleration of relevant incentive policies has paved the way for the development of the energy storage industry and promoted the industry to enter the stage of large-scale development. In March 2016, "the development of energy storage and distributed energy" was included in the top 100 projects of the mainland's "13th Five-Year Plan", and energy storage entered the national development plan for the first time. Energy storage plays an important role in regulating the peak of electricity consumption and improving electricity efficiency, and plays an important role in promoting the transformation of the energy structure to low-carbon. Among them, lithium batteries have a high energy density, up to 200-500Wh/L, and have the characteristics of long cycle life and green environmental protection, so they have strong advantages in various electrochemical energy storage technologies.
