At 8 p.m. on March 24, 2024, the Office of Dream College and the leaders and supervisors of the six universities participating in this Companionship Program (Central China Normal University Inclusive Team, Fudan SC Team, Tianshang Purple Dandelion Team, Tianmei Deyuan Team, Muduo Sign Language Club of Beijing Normal University, and Tiens College Youth Volunteer Association) held the first supervision seminar in the spring of 24.

The one-hour workshop was divided into two parts: the Dream Companion Program Volunteer Handbook Training and the Companionship Program Initial Discussion, in which 16 supervisors from 6 teams participated in the discussion online.

Mr. Zhou Yulan, the dean of Dream College, introduced this companionship plan to the supervisors and responsible persons around the volunteer handbook.

The Companionship Program is a sub-program of Sun Language Dream Academy, which aims to help children with rare diseases adapt to learning and return to school. At present, the companionship program is mainly in the form of online N-to-1, training and supporting college student volunteers to help students learn to learn independently through companionship tutoring.

There are a total of 35 students in this companionship program, and more than 130 volunteers (including accompanying volunteers and supervisors) are expected to participate.

The project comprehensively synchronizes the complete information of the project through the volunteer service manual, which includes volunteer service related content such as project introduction, volunteer recruitment and training, and the whole process of activity implementation. The Dream Companion Program is in the form of training and supervising the project team and supervising and training volunteers, and efficiently manages the whole online activities of the Companion Program.

At the same time, Dream Academy has also sorted out and connected the teaching resources of multiple online platforms for the volunteer teachers. For volunteers' reference. The Dream Companion Program encourages volunteers to tutor with the help of standardized online courseware, reduce the time for lesson preparation, and pay more attention to guiding students to learn independently.

In this supervisory seminar, the focus was on how to motivate volunteer activities through the selection of outstanding volunteers, and the supervisors actively participated in the discussion online.

Fudan SC Shi Yahan:

I think it can be measured by the quality of the teacher's lessons and the communication with the young students. There are also some internal exchanges, for example, when different teams communicate, there are always some volunteers who are more willing to put forward their own ideas and help other volunteers, which can also be used as a measure.

There are also some feedback from the Mingdao cloud platform and the evaluation of the supervisor and counselor as a volunteer companion for review.

Gou Yalan of Beijing Normal University:

I think it's easy to see if the volunteers are perfunctory or not. Give the young students some tests to see if the learning in the classroom is effective. In this way, you will know if the mentoring of the volunteers is really effective for the trainees.

Fudan SC Yang Boda:

I would like to add how the route of the volunteers is examined. Because our supervisors and volunteers have a close relationship, in fact, our supervisors can examine volunteers from this level. For example, the supervisor regularly observes the volunteers every week, and in the process of observation, they can directly understand the service situation of the volunteers, and the feedback from the supervisors is also a way to confirm the performance of the volunteers.

Tianmei Deyuan Liu Haikun:

I think that as an excellent volunteer, you must have professional quality and a certain amount of cultural knowledge to be competent. You can't do this job without knowing anything.

Li Weipeng:

Because the counselor will go to the teacher's class, the tutor can be used to score the class through the counselor's audit. For example, the relationship between the teacher and the students and the atmosphere of the classroom can be seen every time the tutor and teacher go to audit.

At the same time, the counselor will submit the volunteer information to the supervisor every week, and the supervisor can also judge according to the information submitted by the counselor.

Tiens Youth Association Gao Jie:

I think the students we tutor are quite special, so volunteers must have a certain reserve of knowledge. It's more about giving the young students a certain amount of company. In addition, we can see a communication between the students and the volunteer teachers from the students' listening to the class, their daily life, and their expressions in class.

In addition, the supervisor and the teacher should communicate once a week, and if you are more careful, you can ask the supervisor to give some ratings and records to the volunteers every week, and then you can summarize and sort it out at the end of the semester.

Tianshang Zipu Duan Xiaoqin:

I think the previous students have spoken very well, and I can also evaluate the volunteer teachers based on their preparation in the teaching process. And a unified statistic can be made based on the length of service of volunteers in the previous semester.

Tianshang Zipu Leng Xueting:

I would like to add that since the volunteers are directly oriented to the students, if possible, the students can give an evaluation of the volunteers after a semester of study. This can also be a criterion for the selection of outstanding volunteers. In this way, the subjectivity of the students will be stronger, and it can also be seen whether the volunteers have solved some difficulties in the process of tutoring.

Wu Linying:

I think the previous students have already said very comprehensively, and I ask a question that I have found.

I found that when I counted the volunteer hours in the last semester, although some volunteers submitted a lot of data, we found that they started to make up from the back, and it was not completely real data. I don't know how to improve this.

Tianmeide Yuan Sun Zhequan:

On the one hand, we can observe the degree of absorption of the students, and give the students a survey feedback at the end of the semester to see the students' evaluation of the volunteer teachers, which can be observed by the students' absorption of knowledge and whether the score has improved. The second aspect can be referred to by the teachers' feedback records for each lesson, and the teachers who are serious about tutoring will definitely write feedback records carefully. The third point can be to see whether the volunteer teachers communicate with the supervisors, counselors, and students in a timely manner.

Tianmei Deyuan Shao Minglu:

I think another important thing is that there are some phased summary meetings, and the volunteer teachers who share the sessions don't care much and rarely participate. The volunteers who are very active in summarizing and sharing will definitely be some enthusiastic volunteers.

Liu Jiahan of Tiens Youth Association:

I think that in volunteer activities, it is important to give full recognition to the volunteers, know the efforts of the volunteer teachers, and evaluate the volunteer teachers positively. Carry out more summary and sharing in the activities, improve yourself in learning, and motivate volunteers to participate.
