This "ancient folk house" with both Japanese aesthetics and artistic imagination will bring a pure spiritual habitat to Toshima, and lucky Airbnb users in China will have the opportunity to enjoy a free stay, meditate in a space where architectural thinking and artistic spirit are perfectly integrated, and enjoy three days and two nights of artistic slow life.

Japan has been one of the top outbound destinations for Chinese travelers in recent years. According to Airbnb China data, Japan returned to the top of the list of hottest destinations for outbound travel this spring. As a niche destination, Takamatsu has seen a 20-fold year-on-year surge in search popularity in spring[1], demonstrating Chinese travelers' desire for in-depth local travel experiences.

By boat from Takamatsu, you can easily reach MUJI Toshima Guesthouse. This guesthouse was born out of a nearly 100-year-old Japanese "ancient folk house" and was exhibited at the Setouchi International Art Festival in 2010. This time, IDÉE, an interior design brand under the parent company of MUJI's parent company, BEP Project, presided over the renovation project of Toshima B&B, which not only incorporated the concept of "authentic travel" advocated by Airbnb into the design, but also vividly embodied the spirit of MUJI to create a "feel-good life and society".

MUJI's natural minimalism is perfectly interpreted in this "ancient folk house". The pure white wall makes the overall visual presentation of the B&B more transparent and bright, and it is also easier for people to appreciate the chic shape of the "ancient folk house" building itself. By boldly breaking down the spatial barriers of the interior, the designers used elements such as grilles and floor-to-ceiling windows to enhance the sense of breath and fluidity throughout the house. When sunlight shines into the room through the glass, light and shadow art meets the minimalist space, creating a comfortable and harmonious accommodation atmosphere.

The designer carefully matched Japanese vintage furniture, modern design style decorations, and home works by Japanese artists to create a rich and harmonious visual appearance. In addition, the property also features a special collection of tableware and utensils by artists who are active in the Seto Inland Sea region, allowing Airbnb guests to immerse themselves in an artistic atmosphere in their daily life and sleep. When night falls, the lights in the house get warmer and stronger, and the area around the property is completely undisturbed by flashing traffic signals or artificial lights from convenience stores and supermarkets. GUESTS CAN PLAY A RECORD OR READ A SELECTION OF MUJI BOOKS IN THE ROOM FOR A QUIET AND ENJOYABLE TIME TO THEMSELVES.

Staying at MUJI B&B means living in Toshima. Guests can have a professional chef come to their home and savor authentic seafood or handmade sushi for a sense of home-based ritual. Choose to ride along the coast, admire the creative art installations and sculptures scattered across the island villages, or sit quietly or lie flat in nature, enjoying both the visual and the spiritual. Surrounded by vast rice terraces, people can stop by the Toshima Museum of Art and lie down and watch the wriggling droplets on the ground for the best meditation. At the Heart Sound Museum, listen to the resonance of the sea breeze and the heartbeat, and feel the symbiosis between art and nature.

In Toshima, Airbnb and MUJI are extending a special invitation to users in China, and one lucky user will have the opportunity to bring up to three "travel partners" to stay at MUJI Toshima B&B for free for two nights during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday from June 8 to June 10, 2024. From April 15 to April 19, 2024 at 12 noon, follow the "Airbnb" WeChat official account and leave a message in the relevant push comment area as required to sign up to participate. There's no regret that you didn't get the free opportunity, as Toshima Minshuku will be open for booking on Airbnb for a long time, welcoming travelers looking for artistic inspiration.

MUJI TOSHIMA GUESTHOUSE IS THE SECOND MUJI BASE HOMESTAY PROJECT TO BE LAUNCHED ON THE AIRBNB PLATFORM AFTER MUJI BASE KAMOGAWA. In the future, Airbnb will continue to promote a comprehensive partnership with MUJI to restore and renovate vacant houses and traditional Japanese architecture, creating a variety of accommodation options for travelers around the world, creating immersive experiences and revitalizing the local community.
