Recently, Toyota Motor Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "Toyota") and Tsinghua University held the second phase of the signing ceremony of the Tsinghua University-Toyota Joint Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as the "Joint Research Institute"). The two companies plan to continue to conduct research in the fields of environment, energy, carbon neutrality, autonomous driving, AI, and hydrogen energy on the basis of the first phase.
The cooperation between Toyota and Tsinghua University began in 1997 with joint research in the fields of safety and environment, and then in 2005, the Tsinghua University Industrial Development and Environmental Governance Research Center (CIDEG) was established to devote itself to policy research, academic exchanges, and talent training, and in 2006, the company launched the research center on environment, materials, and environmental development. In 2018, Toyota and Tsinghua University established the Hydrogen Energy and Fuel Cell Research Center, and at the same time established a joint research institute (Phase I). Carry out joint research and promote the implementation of empirical evidence in the field of smart healthcare, in order to achieve greater social benefits.
In the first five years, the Joint Research Institute has achieved outstanding research results in the fields of carbon neutrality, intelligent networking, hydrogen energy, fuel cells, energy management, smart health, industrial development and environmental governance, and some of the research results have been applied and displayed in the Beijing Winter Olympics, China International Import Expo, World New Energy Vehicle Conference, etc. At the same time, the Joint Research Institute has also set up student internship programs and scholarship programs to stimulate students' academic interest and spirit of exploration, and cultivate outstanding talents.
In order to continue to deepen the research results of the first phase of the Joint Research Institute, promote the implementation of more achievements, and continue to cultivate outstanding talents for the society, the two parties decided to continue to cooperate in the second phase. The second phase of the joint research institute plans to continue to carry out research work in the fields of environment, energy, carbon neutrality, autonomous driving, AI, and hydrogen energy in the five years from 2024 to 2029.
