According to the latest news from the National Department of Meteorology and Hydrological Management, several regions in Myanmar experienced record-breaking high temperatures on April 6, with the town of Xiaobu in Magway province setting a new record for the highest temperature in 56 years with a staggering 47.4 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, the town of Nyaung U in Mandalay province, and the districts of Haiho and Lailin in southern Shan State also set their respective high temperature records in April.
In the town of Xiaobu, the 47.4 degrees Celsius high temperature recorded on April 6 was not only the highest temperature ever recorded in the region, but also surpassed any record in the past 56 years.
The highest temperature in Liangwu town also reached 45.2 degrees Celsius on the same day, a new high in 59 years.
