The advent of the fifth-generation stealth fighter J-20 is of great significance to the mainland's strategic security pattern. Some people even believe that the advent of the J-20 has saved the lives and dignity of almost all Chinese.
So why is it said that the appearance of the J-20 has saved the lives and dignity of all Chinese? Is this statement an exaggeration?
Dignity is only above the edge of the sword
Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, after 75 years of development, the mainland has become a veritable world power. In terms of national defense and military affairs, it has also entered the ranks of the world's first-class military powers.
However, 75 years ago, when New China was just founded, the mainland was a completely different scene. At that time, China had just gotten rid of the oppression of the "three mountains" under the leadership of great men, and everything was in ruins.
At that time, although the people's army on the mainland was strong in combat, it was extremely backward in terms of weaponry. While the United States and other Western countries already have powerful naval and air force units, the mainland does not even have a decent navy and air force.
It is precisely for this reason that during the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, the mainland lost air supremacy on the battlefield. Although the victory was finally achieved, the volunteers also paid a tragic sacrifice of nearly 5 to 1 battle losses.
Therefore, since the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, the mainland has profoundly realized the importance of air supremacy in the war and decided to build up its air force.
Since 1950, the mainland has established a number of aviation schools to train aviation talents for the country.
With the gradual opening of aviation schools, the mainland has solved the problem of personnel training for the air force, but there is still a big "roadblock" in front of the construction of the air force, that is, the fighter planes equipped by the air force cannot solve the problem.
Due to historical reasons, the level of aviation science and technology and manufacturing industry on the mainland was relatively backward at that time, and it was simply unable to independently manufacture domestically produced fighters.
For this reason, starting from the 50s of the last century, the mainland decided to introduce MiG-15 fighters from the Soviet Union, and the mainland's air force units were gradually improved.
At the same time, on the basis of the introduction of Soviet fighter planes, the mainland also learned the manufacturing technology and experience of fighter jets, which laid a solid foundation for the mainland to manufacture fighter jets independently.
In the 60s and 70s of the last century, on the basis of the independent research and development of the J-5 fighter, the mainland successively developed the J-6 and J-7 fighters, and served in the mainland's air force.
Since then, the mainland has made breakthroughs one after another on the road of independent research and development of domestically produced fighter jets. With the advent of the J-8, J-10 and J-11 models, the mainland's national defense military strength has been greatly enhanced.

However, such air power is simply not enough for China, which is a vast territory. Soon, in 2001, at the beginning of the new century, a humiliation from the air strengthened the mainland's determination to develop air power.
The "South China Sea Plane Collision" has strengthened the mainland's determination to develop fighter planes
On 1 April 2001, an EP-3 electronic reconnaissance plane from the United States illegally intruded into the airspace over the mainland's Hainan Island. When our radar discovered the situation, it immediately reported it to the higher-ups.
After learning of this news, the mainland's forward command center immediately dispatched two Jian-8II fighters to intercept and drive away the US electronic reconnaissance plane, and demanded that the US reconnaissance plane leave the mainland's airspace.
The J-8 fighter was the main fighter of the mainland in the 90s of the last century and even the beginning of the new century, but at that time the J-8 was only a second-generation fighter in the world.
During the same period, the United States had nearly developed a fifth-generation fighter, which shows that there was a huge gap between China and the United States in air power at that time.
At that time, the US electronic reconnaissance aircraft knew that the J-8II, as a second-generation fighter, had the weaknesses of slow speed and poor maneuverability. Therefore, instead of leaving the mainland's airspace, they deliberately provoked the mainland's two J-8II fighters in the air.
However, after the mainland's Jian-8II fighter flew at a low speed with the US electronic reconnaissance plane, the US electronic reconnaissance plane suddenly accelerated and turned and crashed into the mainland's fighter.
In the end, the two J-8 fighters on the mainland could not avoid it and lost control after being hit, and the pilot who piloted the fighter plane also died for the country. On the other hand, the US electronic reconnaissance plane was forced to make a forced landing only because some of its bodies were damaged.

After the plane collision incident in the South China Sea, the mainland demanded that the United States publicly apologize and compensate for the corresponding losses.
However, the United States, relying on its powerful air power, only issued a vague "apology letter" perfunctorily, and deliberately set the amount of compensation at a humiliating $34,567.89.
This incident has made the mainland profoundly aware of the gap between China's air power and the world's first-class level. After that, the mainland began to concentrate all its efforts to catch up with the level of first-class countries in terms of air power.
In 2003, the J-10 independently developed by the mainland was officially delivered and put into service with the Chinese Air Force the following year. Since then, the mainland finally has a domestically produced fourth-generation fighter.
However, this is far from enough, and during the same period, the United States has not only begun to equip the Air Force with fifth-generation F-22 fighters in batches, but also has begun the development and production of the fifth-generation stealth fighter F-35.
Therefore, after the development of the fourth-generation fighter, the mainland began to set up a project to develop the fifth-generation stealth fighter J-20.
The advent of the J-20 is of great significance
However, with the mainland's military technology at that time, it was by no means easy to break through the technical bottleneck and develop a fifth-generation stealth fighter.
It is precisely for this reason that when the United States learned that the mainland was developing a fifth-generation fighter, it disdainfully believed that with the mainland's scientific and technological strength, it would be impossible to build a stealth fighter.
As a result, on January 11, 2011, on the same day as US Secretary of Defense Gates' visit to China, the mainland's fifth-generation stealth fighter J-20 soared into the sky and completed the test flight mission.
This is the first time that the J-20 has appeared on the world stage, although it has only completed the first test flight, but this already means that the mainland's development of a fifth-generation stealth fighter is basically a sure thing.
Sure enough, at the 2016 Zhuhai Air Show, the J-20 appeared again, and in 2018, it was displayed in a public flight to open the warehouse, and used a gorgeous flight to present the 69th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese Air Force.
From several public flights, we can see that the J-20 is designed with a smooth curve, its stealth coating can reduce the radar reflection cross-section, and the full-moving wing design increases the maneuverability and flight stability of the J-20.
Moreover, in terms of power system, the J-20 adopts a twin-engine design and uses the most advanced turbofan 15 engine in the mainland, which makes the J-20's maximum flight speed as high as Mach 2.5. In terms of flight speed, the J-20 has surpassed the latest American F-35 fighters.
In addition, the J-20 is also equipped with Thunderbolt-21 long-range air-to-air missiles, Thunderbolt-12D medium-range air-to-air missiles, Thunderbolt-10 short-range air-to-air missiles and Thunderstone-6 precision-guided gliding bombs and other weapons, which can be called an "air weapon" integrating attack and defense.
With the J-20 in service with the Air Force, the mainland's air power has also been greatly improved, which is enough to cope with various challenges from the air.
According to the video released by CCTV, on March 19, 2024, a number of J-20 fighters on the mainland urgently took off to drive away foreign planes that illegally entered the mainland.
Although the specific model of the enemy aircraft was not announced in the video, judging from the operational airspace, it is very likely that the F-35 fighters of the United States and Japan illegally intruded into the territorial airspace of the mainland.
It can be clearly seen from the video that as the mainland's J-20 formation took off urgently, the foreign aircraft that broke into the mainland's airspace had to turn around and leave the mainland's airspace "in gray".
This scene is in stark contrast to the "South China Sea Collision" incident 23 years ago, the appearance of the J-20 not only enhanced the mainland's national defense and military strength, but also saved the dignity of the Chinese nation!
Having a sword in your hand and not using it are two different things from not having a sword in your hand. Today, the mainland's J-20 formation has formed a powerful air combat force, but this is far from enough.
