On April 5, 2024, the 39th European Congress of Urology (EAU2024) was held in Paris, the capital of romance. The annual meeting lasted for four days, and urology scholars from all over the world gathered together to carry out academic and cultural exchanges and collisions. The team members of the Department of Urology of Peking University First Hospital presented their presentations at each venue today to show the style of Peking University Urology to the world.

Upper urinary tract cancer: Challenges in molecular and clinical At the venue, Dr. Xu Chunru presented and introduced the initial results of the HE-stained tumor microenvironment quartile (HE quarparty) system in guiding the prognostic stratification and precise treatment selection of locally advanced upper urinary tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) to colleagues from all over the world.
This study is another new attempt in the multi-center clinical series (TSU) jointly conducted by the Department of Urology of Peking University First Hospital, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital affiliated to Sun Yat-sen University, Peking University Third Hospital and Fujian Provincial Hospital. Compared with the previously reported prognostic classification model, the HE tetradent system we brought this time not only has the advantages of economy, simplicity and ease of operation, but also can realize the clinical significance of giving corresponding adjuvant treatment strategies to patients with different subtypes. At the meeting, the judges spoke highly of the report and expected that the HE quaternage model could be better integrated with the guidance of clinical treatment strategies.
在上尿路尿路上皮癌：风险分层和治疗新进展（Upper urinary tract cancer: Risk stratification and new treatment modalities）分会场，邓睿逸博士通过对1969位器官局限性UTUC患者（T1-2N0M0）的分析表明，接受保留肾脏手术治疗（NSS）和根治性肾输尿管切除术（RNU）治疗的患者，总生存期及肿瘤特异性生存期无显著差异。
Multivariate analysis showed that age, T stage and pathological grade were significantly correlated with the prognosis of patients. NSS can be used as a surgical treatment for selected patients with organ-confined UTUC, which can achieve tumor control similar to RNU while preserving renal function as much as possible. This study provides clinical evidence for the use of NSS in patients with UTUC based on a large population. The judges affirmed the significance of this study and put forward pertinent suggestions for further research.
At the Surgical innovations: New techniques for safer procedures, Dr. Gao Wenzhi from Miyun Hospital, Peking University Hospital, presented the treatment of bilateral ureteral stricture complicated with bladder contracture by ileal ureteral ureteral augmentation: technical description and results. In the video, the surgical steps are described in detail, focusing on the surgical steps of free cropping ureter, ureteroileal anastomosis, U-shaped restoration of bowel continuity, and bladder enlargement. In the presentation, it was affirmed by the two chairmen of the venue, E. Laukhtina and M. Stockle.
At the Urogenital reconstruction venue, Dr. Xinfei Li presented the results of a preclinical study of paclitaxel-coated ureteral drug balloons in a pig model of ureteral heat-damaged stenosis. The paclitaxel drug balloon has the functions of mechanical dilation and local drug delivery at the same time, which can better ensure the patency of the ureteral lumen. In addition, the concentration of paclitaxel in the blood is below the lower limit of detection, which has a very good safety profile. In the future, the results of this study will be further validated in large-sample trials and clinical studies. The presentation attracted a large audience and sparked a lively discussion.
