If it weren't for the words of Mr. Ma Mingda, a famous martial arts historian in the mainland, I really thought that Chinese martial arts would be like the one depicted in the movie and Jin Yong's martial arts novels, heaven and earth, omnipotent, or like Ma Baoguo and Lei Lei, vulnerable and embarrassing!
Mr. Maminda had this to say:
A large number of martial artists tend to become performers, focusing on practicing the taolu and discussing the style of the taolu, but ignoring the importance of testing the high and low in actual combat. The development trend of this single set of ways is easy to make martial arts gradually tend to be danced, formalized, and even strangely expressed. To some extent, the regional culture of the Chinese nation lacks a clear and fair one-on-one competition mechanism, especially for those who have not been rigorously trained, even after thousands of years of inheritance, there is no guarantee that their skills will be sublimated. It's like when we dress up in the store and try to make everything look even better than the original through exquisite makeup. Of course, martial arts performances have their existential value, but the core purpose of public participation in martial arts should be to strengthen the body, and not everyone must be involved in actual combat.
And Chinese martial arts, a national treasure-level art, is definitely not as unbearable as you think, what to say about digging out the crotch and gouging your eyes, that's not what our authentic Chinese martial arts do. You see, whether it is a foreigner or ourselves, everyone is the same, they are all two hands and two legs, no matter how much the martial arts change, it will not change to the extent of the world's difference, in the final analysis, it is the individual's kung fu and ability.
Now the key point is that our Chinese martial arts must be in line with modern fighting technology, otherwise, we will not be able to progress, and will only be slowly eliminated and collected by museums, and young people will not like to accept it. Therefore, when we teach children to learn martial arts, we must first let them understand what real Chinese martial arts are, and we can't just come with a complete set of five-step boxing, so that they think that martial arts is as simple as posing a few poses. In fact, those fixed routines are more of a manifestation of martial arts concepts and techniques, if children feel that martial arts are posing from an early age, then it is not good, this road is harmful to the development of our martial arts.
One of the most common fallacies about martial arts is that if you take the routines apart, you can use them to beat people. In fact, the foundation and core of Chinese martial arts lies in fighting techniques, and taolu is only one of the forms of expression. When we teach children martial arts, we have to start from the core technology of martial arts and start from the concept of actual combat. Remember, martial arts is not a magical martial art, nor is it a one-trick stunt to defeat the enemy, it teaches you how to outwit in the face of a strong opponent, and how to win quickly in the face of a weaker opponent, which is the education of the spirit of martial arts. To put it bluntly, martial arts training is not only about exercising the body, but also about tempering the spirit of perseverance and noble martial arts through practical experience.
