Principality of Brazil (1510-1815)
On April 22, 1500, the Portuguese navigator Pedro Cabral arrived in Brazil. Over the next 300 years, the Portuguese settled here, first harvesting Brazilian rosewoods, then expanding to gold panning and sugar cane cultivation, and gradually becoming a Portuguese colony.

The Dutch occupied Brazil for themselves (1624-1654), but after the departure of the outstanding Dutch governor Johann Mauritz in 1644, Portugal regained Brazil after the First Anglo-Dutch War in 1654.

The coat of arms of Brazil was inaugurated on November 19, 1889, four days after the establishment of the Federal Republic, and has undergone several revisions. It is round in shape, with a radiant base and a 20-pointed star. It is surrounded by coffee and tobacco sprigs, both of which are the country's main crops. The circle in the center depicts the constellation of the Southern Cross, surrounded by 27 stars representing the 26 states and the Federal District. Plus a five-pointed star with red and yellow edges. The blue band at the bottom bears the inscription República Federativa do Brasil, the date of its inauguration: November 15, 1889. There is a sword in the middle, silver. The handguards are blue with yellow edges. The shank is red with a yellow five-pointed star.
