author:CCTV News

Welcoming the remains of the martyrs of the Chinese Volunteers back to China has always touched the hearts of the motherland and the people. Since 2014, under the promotion of high-level officials in China and South Korea, 10 batches of the remains of 938 volunteer martyrs have returned to the embrace of the motherland. In 2020, the mainland used the Y-20 transport aircraft for the first time to carry out the task of welcoming the remains of the martyrs of the Chinese Volunteers back to China, which further reflects the supreme respect of the motherland for the martyrs. The officers and men of a certain air force unit who are responsible for this task cherish the memory of the martyrs of the Chinese People's Volunteers during this Qingming Festival, swear to inherit the legacy of the martyrs, and make unremitting efforts to build a strong people's air force.

On the Ching Ming Festival, the officers and men of a certain air force unit who had participated in the task of welcoming the remains of the martyrs of the Chinese Volunteers back to China lined up in front of the Kunpeng Yun-20 and saluted the most solemn military salute in the direction of the martyrs' loyal bones.

In 2020, pilot Xu Yanjun and his comrades-in-arms were tasked with flying the Y-20 to Incheon Airport in South Korea for the first time to welcome the martyrs of the volunteers back to China.

Xu Yanjun, a certain unit of the Air Force: We have gone through many deliberations in advance, including the flight plan, the application for the route, and then the diplomatic etiquette to foreign countries, including the overall modification and transformation of our aircraft. When the honor guard of the three services laid the remains of the martyrs, we held a brief moment of silence and wiped the coffin, and the mood was relatively heavy at that time. However, as crew members, we still have to do our own work well, and everyone will work together again to return to the motherland quickly and efficiently.

In 2022, during the mission to welcome the remains of volunteer martyrs back to China, Typhoon "Meihua" made landfall on the Liaodong Peninsula, and the mission route was less than 100 kilometers away from the center of the typhoon.

Meng Yang, a certain unit of the Air Force: We will enter the time of preparation for the return trip after landing on September 14, 2022. When we were studying the weather, we reported ice accumulation on the sea route and rain at the landing site. We want to carry out this kind of mission at this time, even if we go under the knife, we have to fly back.

With the joint determination of the crew, the aircraft took off early and returned on time despite adverse weather conditions. When flying over Shenyang Taoxian Airport, hail and freezing rain continued to knock on the skin of the plane, and the crew steered the plane resolutely through the thick clouds, and the outline of the motherland gradually appeared.

Pang Rongqi, a certain unit of the Air Force: At that time, I looked back at the inside of my cabin, and I just wanted to say to these martyrs, seniors, your blood has not been shed in vain, come and see the land of China that we have today, look at the peaceful and tranquil living environment we have now, and look at the way that our new China has so far to the present. This glorious pride arises spontaneously.

During the Spring Festival this year, the unit provided accompanying support for the Air Force's "August 1st" flight demonstration team participating in the second Saudi International Defense Exhibition through the air refueling of the Y-20, realizing one-stop direct flight, demonstrating the actual combat training level of the Chinese Air Force. The picture of fighter planes flying over the Himalayas in formation has also become a shining business card of the People's Air Force.

Meng Yang, a certain air force unit: The weather on the first day of the Lunar New Year was still relatively beautiful, cloudless, and we were flying at a relatively low altitude at that time, and the Himalayas below could be seen clearly. At that time, I thought that at the beginning of the establishment of our army, our predecessors opened up the Sichuan-Tibet route and opened up a no-man's land, and today we have flown back following the footsteps of our ancestors.

Along the way, this force has made an important contribution to nation-building in peacetime. Tangshan, Yushu, Ludian, Jiuzhaigou earthquakes, Zhouqu huge debris flow...... Wherever there is a disaster or danger, the People's Air Force will arrive as soon as possible. In the 2008 8.0-magnitude earthquake in Wenchuan, Sichuan Province, this unit was ordered to use a domestically produced Y-8 aircraft to fly to the epicenter loaded with materials and personnel, and set up "air rescue channels" for the people.

Pang Rongqi, a certain unit of the Air Force: In the process of carrying out the mission, I feel that my whole body is full of strength, and I feel that this is what we contemporary soldiers should do, and I think this is the best interpretation of our mission in peacetime.

From the Il-12 to the Y-20, from the Kang-Tibet Plateau to the center of the ocean, the "wingspan" of the unit has become larger and larger, and its flight path has become farther and farther, constantly displaying to the world the good image of the People's Air Force as a peaceful and mighty division, and the fighting style of "daring to accept tasks, daring to take risks, and daring to rise to the occasion" condensed from the beginning of the unit's establishment has inspired the officers and men of the unit from generation to generation to constantly create new glories.

Lu Qifan, a certain unit of the Air Force: Our unit is not only a unit that inherits fine traditions, but also a unit that has the courage to innovate and open up. Everyone is particularly receptive to new things, new knowledge and new technologies, and through the absorption and acceptance of new technologies, they are transformed into a part of our combat effectiveness.
