Similar souls collide together
Yuan Zhen and Wang Shuyuan have been classmates since undergrad, and they are often in the same group in class. In the summer social practice of 2018, Yuan Zhen served as the captain and Wang Shuyuan served as the team member, and the two went to Chengde, Hebei Province with the practice team to carry out visits. The rich social practice projects have given them more opportunities to get to know each other, which makes the two people who are originally on the same frequency confirm each other's intentions.

After they are together, they go to class, to the library, to the lab..... The sweet little couple in the eyes of others is also an indispensable "learning and scientific research partner" for each other.
In 2018, thanks to the national innovation project provided by the college, they joined the laboratory of Professor Tan Xiaoyue of the School of Medicine. Under the guidance of Professor Tan, the two completed the initiation of basic research and jointly carried out an undergraduate research project, which won the second prize of the 6th National College Student Basic Medicine Innovation Research Forum.
In 2021, the two joined the research group of Professor Zhang Chunze of the Department of Colorectal Surgery, People's Hospital of Nankai University, and participated in the Tianjin colorectal cancer screening project, gradually enlightening in the field of clinical research.
For this reason, Yuan Zhen chose gastrointestinal surgery at the master's level, and Wang Shuyuan chose oncology as the research direction.
"The advantage of falling in love with peers is that you don't have to worry about having nothing to say, and you don't have to find a topic to chat, you can't finish talking about the subject alone!" Yuan Zhen quipped when talking about the way the two get along.
Relying on the platform of "Global Nankai Teacher and Student Exchange", they went to the UK to visit and recharge their batteries; according to their interests, they devoted themselves to various social practice activities and innovation and entrepreneurship competitions to improve their comprehensive ability; in the field of academic and scientific research, the two also worked hard to create and strive for excellence, and worked together to hand over a brilliant "report card".
During their bachelor's and master's degrees, they won awards such as "Zhou Enlai Scholarship of Nankai University" and "National Scholarship for Graduate Students", and won the honorary titles of "Outstanding Students of Tianjin Universities", "Outstanding Undergraduate Graduates of Nankai University", "Outstanding Student Cadres of Nankai University" and "Top Ten Medical Students".
Yuan Zhen published 14 SCI papers as the first/co-first author, 3 Chinese core papers, and the highest impact factor of a single SCI paper was 15.3 points; Wang Shuyuan published 14 SCI papers and 1 Chinese core paper as the first/co-first author. During their graduate studies, both of them ranked among the top three in their respective majors in terms of academic performance.

Supporting each other to move forward
After completing five years of undergraduate study, the two went to the General Hospital of the Chinese People's Liberation Army to carry out joint training and conduct a 33-month standardized residency training. Up to now, Yuan Zhen has participated in more than 200 surgeries, and Wang Shuyuan has managed more than 300 patients.

In the clinical frontline, the two of them feel the ever-changing power of science and technology in the medical industry, and their clinical skills and scientific research thinking have been rapidly improved. Wang Shuyuan, who developed the ability of "data processing" during his undergraduate years, has now become a very trusted existence of the hospital director and teachers. She can always be seen in the data processing and analysis work of the research group.
Yuan Zhen said that as a student of Nankai, he must strive for excellence in both study and work, which is not only for his own development, but also for his alma mater Nankai.
While completing their daily medical work, the two also worked hard to carry out basic experiments and clinical research, and continued to follow the master's supervisor to explore in-depth exploration in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal tumors. When asked about their future plans, the two invariably said the words "study for a doctorate".
Perhaps, for medical students, studying for a PhD is an "obsession". But after the two approached the operating table in person, they found that this was not only an "obsession", but also a "necessity". They unanimously believe that it is the duty of doctors to save lives and help the wounded, and it is the mission of doctors to contribute to the cause of medicine and bring more hope to patients at the source.

Moving into the future at a concerted pace
In March 2023, with hope for the future, Yuan Zhen and Wang Shuyuan entered the sacred hall of marriage, turning their first acquaintance into a long-term companion in the evening of wind and rain. They returned to Nankai to take wedding photos, and fixed this important happy moment in Nankai Park, which witnessed their growth all the way.
Many people ask them why they choose to get married so early, to which they reply, "Because we see the future in the days we get along." ”
It is not easy to manage love, but Yuan Zhen and Wang Shuyuan take care of their relationship in the most suitable way for each other. Whenever he encounters a problem, Yuan Zhen, who is an "ISFJ", will give Wang Shuyuan of "ISTJ" a lot of emotional value, and Wang Shuyuan will also give Yuan Zhen a lot of substantive advice. When a conflict arises, both of them think about how to solve it, rather than holding their own opinions. In the pursuit of a consistent goal, they find the best form of love.
Wang Shuyuan not only has excellent grades in scientific research and study, but she is also a "talented girl" who is good at piano and violin in life. The freshman orientation party and the school party all left her "shining" figure. After staying in the student organization, she also actively led the student union to carry out a series of colorful cultural and sports and volunteer activities, which received unanimous praise from teachers and students.
In his spare time, Wang Shuyuan also likes to create oil paintings. Previously, these paintings would be stored in scrolls. But now, Yuan Zhen hangs the paintings on the walls of their small home. Together, the two manage their sweet little days with their hearts, capturing the sparkling moments of life.
"There is a sentence that I agree with, good love is not a passive acceptance of life, but can actively create a life that belongs to two people. We are each other's best friends, best partners on the way to school, and forever companions in marriage. I believe that where time is spent, flowers bloom. Wang Shuyuan said with a smile.
From study to scientific research, from career to life, Yuan Zhen and Wang Shuyuan relied on each other, achieved each other, and met a better self.
