However, recently, some users have used plug-in software in violation of regulations many times, or posted plug-in sales information on Moments. In this regard, the WeChat security team has carried out a special cleanup and will continue to increase the cleanup efforts.
Once the above behaviors are found and confirmed, Weixin will take steps according to the severity of the violation in accordance with relevant national laws and regulations, the Tencent Weixin Software License and Service Agreement, and the Weixin Personal Account Usage Specifications.
Common types of WeChat plug-ins:
One is to induce users to download and use directly with various gimmicks:
- One-click forwarding of Moments: You can forward pictures and texts of Moments and short videos sent by friends in batches;
- Android emulator: Log in to WeChat on the computer to simulate the mobile phone to achieve the same operation as the WeChat mobile phone;
- Red envelope plug-in: When WeChat receives the red envelope message, it will automatically complete the operation of WeChat to grab the red envelope;
- Skin WeChat: You can change the WeChat logo icon and customize the WeChat theme;
- WeChat multi-open: Use multiple WeChat accounts on one device.
The other type is the plug-in developed by using group control technology, which is usually packaged as a "micro-marketing" artifact:
- WeChat group control: through virtual positioning, batch greeting, etc., to achieve batch addition of friends, automatic batch of circle of friends, one-click like, one-click comment and other functions;
- WeChat bot: WeChat group marketing, to achieve regular group sending, automatic reply, automatic chat and other control functions.
Plug-in software not only destroys the ecological balance and normal operation of the WeChat platform, but also provides convenient conditions for malicious marketing behavior, causing harassment to normal users, and there are multiple risks in using plug-in software:
- Privacy risks: Plug-in software has risks such as collecting and leaking user privacy information and stealing user accounts and passwords.
- Threat to property security: Many plug-ins will also implant Trojan viruses, which may be used by bad actors to threaten the security of funds.
- Being used to harass others: may be unknowingly used to harass others and affect the relationship between friends;

On March 27, the Douyin Security Center issued the "Douyin Announcement on the Governance of Improper Use of AI to Generate Virtual Characters", saying that recently, there are still accounts on Douyin that improperly use AI technology to generate virtual characters to publish content, and the platform has severely dealt with them.
Last year, Douyin issued the "Platform Specifications and Industry Initiative on AI-Generated Content", which clarified that the platform does not encourage the use of AI-generated virtual characters for low-quality creation, and will strictly punish the illegal use of AI-generated virtual characters to publish content that violates scientific common sense, falsifies, and spreads rumors.
Recently, the platform found that there are still accounts on the site that improperly use AI technology to generate virtual characters to publish content, and the platform has dealt with them severely.
Typical behaviors include:
1. Generate overseas fake personas, consume patriotic psychology, and win attention. Using a false image of a foreigner to win attention with remarks such as wanting to marry China, thinking about living in China, and evaluating social events.
2. Generate a false image of handsome men and beautiful women, deceive interactions, and make friends to divert traffic. Directly refer to users as "you", "mother", "mother", "husband", etc., publish content that expresses false emotions such as emotional inducement, singing love songs, and seeking benefits for you, directing users to private chat tools, and even committing fraud.
3. Generate fake personas of elites, publish bad content such as Chicken Soup for the Soul, Financial Quotient, Pseudo Chinese Studies, Thick Black Studies, and Pseudo Success Studies, attract low-quality fans, and even attract traffic outside the station to make profits by selling classes and joining groups.
In response to the illegal use of AI-generated virtual characters, the platform will remove the illegal video from the shelves, cancel the contribution and profit-making permissions of the violating account, erase account followers, ban the account, etc., and use models, technical identification capabilities and other means to carry out long-term systematic identification, discovery and disposal.
At the same time, the platform has grasped the clues that some black industry gangs improperly use AI to generate virtual characters for crime, and will report to the police to crack down.
The rapid development of artificial intelligence technology has enriched the Internet content ecology, but it has also brought challenges to the abuse of technology. The platform reiterates that creators, streamers, users, merchants, advertisers, and other platform ecosystem participants must follow the following specifications when applying generative AI technology on Douyin:
1. Publishers should prominently mark AI-generated content to help other users distinguish between virtual and reality, especially in confusing scenarios.
2. Publishers are responsible for the consequences of AI-generated content, regardless of how the content is generated.
3. The virtual human needs to be registered on the platform, and the virtual human technology user needs real-name authentication.
4. It is prohibited to use generative AI technology to create or publish infringing content, including but not limited to portrait rights, intellectual property rights, etc. Once discovered, the platform will impose strict penalties.
